My XBOX refuses to start, on turning on the power at the plug the
machine appears to startup (ie I hear the noise of the machine but no
green lights are showing). After pressing either the eject or on/off
button the machine goes quiet and starts again but no lights on the
front and no signal out. So looks like to power is okay but I find it
strange that the eject and on/off switch both seem to turn the machine
on but the dvd does not eject !!!!!!

I'd suggest you use http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/contact/default.htm to
contact the support folks to get their input. Doesn't sound right at all.

Cheers will email them, forgot to add that the power on/off switch does
not power the machine down. So if I press either the eject or power
on/off the machine goes quiet until I release the either button.

Ack! Not good, Gary. Good luck with the fixes. Hopefully they'll be able
to assist you and make it right.
