I'm confused. I bought a wireless router so my son could play XboxLive and
it worked fine. But for other reasons (computer problems) I disconnected
the router yesterday and to my surprise I went upstairs and and found him
playing his Xbox online with no problems at all. Today I completely removed
the router and he goes on playing with no problems, in fact the whole
computer is unplugged. How is this happening?

More then likely he is connected to someone's near by network! Most people
just don't know better and don't password protect, and others can just
connect right up. In fact, he may have never been connected to your
network. You may have Accidentally, maybe not paid attention and connected
to someone else right from the start without knowing better. You could
possibly have 3 or more Wifi Networks in your Area you could connect to,
plus a few others that are actually password protected. You'd be surprised
at the number of Open Wifi networks all over the place.

I know better, and the first thing I did when I setup my D-Link wireless
Gaming Router was to Lock it up with a Password. My guess is 60% or more
people don't on their Home wireless networks.
