1st gen xbox surround sound cuts in and out

| I am having an issue with a 1st gen xbox. I have an xbox connected to
a kenwood vr-507 receiver which is capably of all dolby surround sound
options up to dts. I have the xbox connected to the receiver on
video1, set to 5.1 surround sound on the unit. The issue is, my
surround sound cuts in and out randomly on games such as MOH european
assult, ninja gaiden, and most recently farcry instincts. I am
running a standard setup with RCA cables to video1 to my receiver.
When the surround sound does work its sounds great, so I know its
possible.
Has anyone had the same issue?

| Yes, I had that problem myself. I think if I remember correctly, the
problem went away when I got myself a better Surround Sound Receiver. It
was quite annoying. Ummm, I don't know how you think your getting 5.1
Surround sound with RCA Cables? You need a Toslink Fiber Optic Cable for
that.
