| hey all, Im looking at getting a widescreen lcd display for my 360,
lookingat the dell 24" and need to know 2 things
1. is a 16ms response time good enough or am I gonna notice blurring during
high acrion scenes?
2. the monitor had DVI, composet and VGA connectors, do I need a cable other
that the one supplied with the xbox to avail of high def resolution?
3. (I know I said 2 but while I'm at it the displayhasa native rez of
1900x1200, will games and DVDs look fuzzy as the screen will be running in
non native rez or will black bars be placed around the image?
thanks for any feedback you can give

| 1. 16ms isn't too good.. see below
2. If that's the only connectors you'd need the VGA adaptor for HighDEF
modes 720p/1080i but you could use the composite for 480i
3. DVDs would probably scale fine and look okay.. but this depends on what
your using to play the video. You might be able to scale up or keep in a
window.. I'd probably say that no matter what your going to be scaling
DVDs..
Right now the XBOX 360 does not support DVI or HDMI. You could use the
composite connection on the 360 but that would be just plain sad.
In order to use 720p or 1080i you'd need the VGA cable for your 360... But
since the XBOX 360 supports 720p and 1080i your monitor would be scaling of
course since it's native resolution is 1900x1200 This could look okay but
would not be maybe as nice as a PC running 1900x1200. You would probably be
able to run 720 or 1080i in a window.. with black bars.. but why would you
really want that on such a large monitor?
16ms is not the greatest.. but I wouldn't really want to comment on that
particular monitor's capabilities. Is that black to white or grey to grey?
Better provide the actual monitor model for someone to analyze. If it's the
one I found online it actually has an analog component connection. I'd use
that.
The monitor is probably really built for a PC.. but for a PC to run anything
at that sort of resolution you would want a very high end system, with
perhaps even SLI or dual-link DVI-DL support. With certain high
resolutions... video cards need to share the size.. IE half the image
displayed by one output, and the other side by the next. It's called Dual
Link.. read up on this.
Only some monitors support DVI-DL but usually it's the large (24+) and not
all video cards support this feature.

Bottom line.. if I were getting ready to drop some serious coin on a large
LCD monitor I'd have to contemplate HDMI connectivity for PS3 etc...

I have just seen this Acer monitor with an 8ms response time but it looks to
have limited connectors too.

Maybe I should be looking for a lower rez screen. As you said I don't
really want to have big black border around the image, be a bit of a waste.
But I also know how fuzzy an LCD can be if not running at its native
resolution so I'd like to avoid that too.
back to the drawing board .....
thanks

You really want something with <10ms. Faster is better, obviously.

The best bet would be to find a monitor that supports the older style
d-shaped VGA connector. That's the best the 360 supports for now.
Otherwise, you'll need the HDTV kit for the component connectors.

The monitor should support other modes as well. If it does 1900x1200, it
shouldn't have a problem with the 360, which supports 768 or
1080(interlaced) horizontal lines.
