Hi,

What is the what do you think the average age of an Xbox 360 user would

Good question. I think the average age would be pushing late 20's or
older. Due to the high cost of next-gen gaming nowdays (HDTV + cost of
console + cost of games) most 360 owners need to have an established
job and some disposible income. The cost of the 360 and PS3 push it
out of the reach for most starving students and kids trying to save up
their allowance to buy one. Like I said earlier, I was in GameStop
last week and even the employee there (young guy about 19) who was a
definite hardcore gamer didn't own a 360 yet because he couldn't afford
one.

What's interesting Tom is that when you play XBOX Live, the average player's
age is more like 11-24 yrs old.

The last demographic study said the average age of game players was
almost 30 and the average age of game buyers was 36. I'd expect the 360
ownership to be in that range.

I think it depends on the time of day or at least I hope so.

A lot more 360's was sold stateside so I guess it may very well be that
they are used as toys by many US kids while European owners are mainly
hard core gamers that bought them for their own money. The use of HD
TV's in Europe is somewhat behind the US which may partly explain the
difference.

If it's not the case that many more US kids use a 360 then it must be
that most US people are mentally like 11 or so since the later in the
evening one plays over here in Europe the more US brats join in often
ruining the game :-)

Please note that I'm not saying all US players are stupid egocentric
kids. There certainly are nice kids and also a lot of very nice adults
and I've had lots of fun games with US guys but unfortunately good
random fun games are often destroyed by stupid #%%#€ kids!

Also the situation is not helped by the Avoid player system not working :-(

Kind regards

Bruno

The person who uses it may be different than the person who acutally
bought it, as in it was bought by parent/grandparent and the user is
actually a kid. Something to consider if you are marketing a game
machine as M$ calls it.

I only wish the XBL community reflected that. I'm seriously thinking

I recently saw a poll on that very question and it was in the 30s.
Unfortunately, I don't remember where I saw that, but it's likely true
because that is about the average age of gamers in general. It keeps
rising as us gamers get older.

Sounds like all ages are playing on XBOX Live... Your point is well taken
because at night, more adults login and kick butt.

I will let everyone know that I used to suck at Call of Duty 2. However,
thanks to all the 11-13 yr olds schooling me live, I am getting much better.

Kids are brutally honest and it's helped me. =0}

Try Chromehounds. The game forces you to join a squad (i.e. clan) to join
the war. It is, by far, the oldest-skewing online console game I've ever
played. The toolbox quotient is through the floor.

I'm glad to know there are more gamers that are my age and older than I
thought (I'm 38). But for some reason, when I visit GameStop or the
videogame section in wal-mart I look around and see mainly teenagers.

I've heard Robin Williams (55) enjoys Battlefield 2 on his 360 and
plays as a sniper.

Well, I am 46 and have been gaming since the mid-70s; I probably will game
like this until my hands no longer have that ability. But by then, maybe
they will have thought projected gaming :-)

I stand corrected. It must be the influx of 40 year olds who learned from
our generation that it is ok to be a mature gamer.

Yeah, but the difference was you guys were TEENAGERS doing that and we were
the 6, 7 and 8 year olds putting our quarters on the side waiting for next.
I admit looking up to you guys back in the 70's and a little bit of the
80's. Now the roles have reversed and the 30-somethings would mop the floor
with you guys. For that matter, we would smoke the 20-somethings as well.
Its these doggone teenagers that never had to adjust from the 2600's
1-button system to the intellivisions slide in gaming template. It's these
kids who don't know what vectrex is or who don't realize we were paying $600
for a system almost 20 years ago when it was darn near impossible to save
that much. Its these kids who think dreamcast is this ancient relic of
online gaming who don't even know about the sega genesis' online system.
They are our true competition. No offense to you old guys or you fresh out
of college guys but you aren't on our gaming level. You don't know about
spending your college years in the Super Tecmo/ Mario Kart/ Madden Football
era. You don't know about staying up till 4 or 5 in the morning running a
Tecmo league with a dorm room full of 28 guys each thinking their team can
take it even though no one could stop Bo Jackson, Christian Okoye and Barry
Word. You don't know about waiting to go to the bar by playing a couple of
games of Madden with Emmit Smith's super spin making sure the cowboys always
won. This is why the Children of the late 60's early 70's will always rule
gaming. We know all about this.

Hehehehe, those were the days. I rmemeber getting pissed off that a kid
slightly older had placed about 12 quarters across the machine to hold the
game and when he looked at me he had some kneejerk reaction to me putting a
qurter on the machine and all of his fell down into the back of the machine.
He was freaking out at how stupid he felt.

Well, my brother-in-law is 35. The other day, he was playing with a
couple of 12 year old kids from Florida, so based on those 3 data points,
the average age would be around 20 ;)

I suspect it's closer to 26-28 though.

But then, what do you consider a user? If one person plays 2 hours a week
vs. someone who plays 2 hours a day, do they both count equally as a
"user"?

Where are all of these basements? Man I wish my house had one! All my

everything. Keeps us all in the same room as a family at least, even if

I'd say 12-13 maybe 14 -- most of the games are developed for
group/intelligence level.

A 35 year old playing an XBOX 360, well that sorta speaks for itself -- but
there again, I see 35 year olds with spinners on their truck/car so I guess
"shinny" things do it for some -- look the tire moves but the rim appears to
stay in place -- wow, look at that --- oooowww, aaaah, wow -- my precious
shinny thing -- look, I stop and it keeps spinning -- ooh, wow, look at
that, oooww -- it just keeps spinning.

Look at me, I'm superficial and stupid at the same time -- do I get an extra
level or something?

I believe the average age of videogamers these days is somewhere in the late
twenties.

http://www.theesa.com/facts/top_10_facts.php This says average age is 33
(it's from 2006). I think sports games and military/spy-thriller games
have a lot to do with that.
Madden, the golf games, WW II FPS games, and things like Splinter Cell.

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2...ographics_x.htm This
one from 2004 says the average age is 29.

Of course, averages can be skewed. Throw in a decent number of gamers in
their eighties and the average is raised. ;-) I doubt that's the case, but
it could happen. If they count the Nintendo DS and Brain Age in the mix,
things could get really skewed towards older gamers.

I think that's generally about right.

People in their teens and 20's who haven't gotten married or become
parents yet tend to do most of the gaming. Once they become a parent
or get married gaming time usually drops off significantly but then it
may pick up again in their late 30's or middle age when their children
get older and the parents start playing video games with the kids. I'm
38 and this has been my situation and seems somewhat typical from what
I've observed.

I'm 43. I play every week depending on how much time my business allows.
If I get a game that really draws me in I'll play it every day.
But then again I own my own business so I can do what ever I want.
If it's a slow day and they don't need me I'll head home and play.
I just bought a PSP so when I'm at my Restaurant and there's down time I
can keep myself amused.
The cool thing now is that my 7and 11 year old have a couple of Nintendo
DS's so we can all game together.
