XBOX360 & PC disconnecting in MediaCenter
|

| I have an XBOX 360 with a wired connection to a linksys WRT54GS router. My
PC is wirelessly connected and is XP MCE 2005 w/ RU2. Things will go along
swimmingly when suddenly I get this "Another User or Application has
disconnected the media center edition..." I can't reconnect until I turn off
the XBOX and turn it back on. When I stream music or photos directly from
the XBOX dashboard, it works great.
I've read a couple of other posts on this site that are very similar to my
situation. Basically, some application is creating an error with mcrmgr.exe,
this in turn causes Dr. Watson run which then causes the problem with MCE.
I've attached a link of picture of the errors from the Event Viewer
http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/485/mceerrorcl6.jpg
I've read this MS support page
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911123/en-us?sd=xbox and looking at Method 4,
my error message doesn't say what program is causing the problem. Instead,
it just states 'Faulting module unknown"
Anybody have an idea how I can dig deeper to find out what the problem is?
BTW, I'm have all the correct ports forwarded and the correct services
started and running. Actually, I have a port forwarding question, is the ip
address that I forward the ip for my PC or the ip for the XBOX? I've tried
both and I still get this error.
Thanks in advance for the help!!

| Could it be simply that you 'wirelessly connected MCE2005 pc' is losing
connection to the wireless access point and then connecting again? Even a
hiccup would cause the XBOX360 to go offline.
If you have a lot of wireless networks in your area, maybe one of them is
becoming stronger causing your pc to try and associate with the 'unknow'
wireless network.
Confirm that your wireless settings on the wireless tab are are set to:
Connect to "wireless infrastructure networks only"
Your AP is listed first in the preferred networks
I imagine that connecting everything via wire is out of the question for
your setup, but it might be useful for a day or two to see if the issue still
occurs.
Is the pc in question used for any other tasks? If so, maybe you should
turn on the extender performance manager and see if your pc is under load
causing it to go offline.

| I've seen a couple cases of this behavior where it was due to the way the
network adapater in the PC was configured. Couple things to try:
- Update your PC's Ethernet card drivers to the latest version available
from your PC OEM's website
- Change your Ethernet card to 100 mbps full duplex if it's set to Auto
Detect or vice versa:
.. 1) Right click My Computer, select Manage, click Device Manager
.. 2) Expand Network adapters; double-click your network card
.. 3) Select the Advanced tab
.. 4) Select Link Speed & Duplex; what is the Value? Try changing it to
100Mbps/Full Duplex
Regarding port forwarding on your home router - because the Xbox 360 and PC
are both plugged into the LAN side of your router, there is no need to have
port forwarding turned on.

| Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, my wireless PCI card does not have that
option. I guess I really won't know if it's the wireless connection causing
the problem until I get wired...which I was going to do soon...but now it
might have to be sooner rather than later.
One other question. I tried uninstalling the extender software and it's
wouldn't work. A window would pop up for around 1/4 of a second and then
nothing. Is there something that I should know in order to uninstall the
software. I'm kind of recreating everything from scratch
again....uninstall/reinstall .net 1.1, rollup, and media connect and extender
software.

| No special steps are required to uninstall the software; the behavior you're
seeing is odd (and not something I've seen before)
Please try connecting your PC via wired - it wouldn't surprise me if the
original issue goes away once your wireless card is out of the picture.

| I was able to uninstall the extender software last night without any
problems. I think the problem (maybe)the first time is that I had the xbox
on.
