Pretty interesting article:

Of course this is a biased text (just look at the url), but there might be
some truth in this...and remember that HD-TV share is even lower in Europe.

The article points out a lot of important facts and everybody knows
more than 75-80 percent of households won't have an HDTV at the time
the PS3 enters the market.

That having been said, even though I own a 360 and favor the xbox, I
can still see how Sony could win this race based on pure demand. It's
possible that even if the PS3 sold at $600 *without* blu-ray or HDMI
people would still buy it. Perhaps it could even sell well at $700.
We just don't know yet. We don't know the price elastictiy of demand
for the PS3 until it hits the market. Many people are brand loyalists
and grew up with playstation and know nothing else and will pay
whatever price of entry will get them into the next Sony console.

A lot of people talk about how Nintendo innovates, but it seems to me
on key technological decisions they are always a generation behind.

They were the last to use optical media on a console.
They were the last to have some form of online plan.
They will be the last to use HDTV (if they ever use HDTV.)
It took a 3rd party hack to shame them into adding a backlight to the
GBA.
It took forever for them to add color to the original GB.
You could even say that Palm had touch-screen games 10 years before the
DS did.

It seems the only advances at Nintendo occur when they are forced into
it kicking and screaming.

True, they are usually a step behind bleeding edge technology but I
don't think this is what hurt them in the past. The gamecube didn't
fail due to lack of technical abilities, it was more due to lack of any
good games at launch and no backwards compatibilty, which hurt the N64
as well. Plus, gamers started getting older and Nintendo systems have
earned a reputation as just a child's toy and they haven't focused
their marketing strategies to counter this. Nintendo can make up for a
lack of raw processing ability and graphics with creativity and
innovation since the industry is clearly lacking this at the moment.
