My xbox is now refusing to boot up giving me the red light after 7 months of
usage. Do they suggest that I take it back to the store that I purchased
from or send it directly to Microsoft support for the 360? What would be the
fastest and easiest way to get it fixed or replaced?

Back to the store.

There's a practical reason for this as well. Individual defective returns
aren't generally regulated or tracked, especially when it comes to small
consumer electronics. But if a retailer has to get involved in handling
defective returns, they have the financial and legal muscle to get
manufacturers to correct mistakes on a large scale. The stores want
defects and returns even less than Microsoft does.

Let us know what you decide to do and how it turns out. Also mention
where you live. Apparently the warranty in most of Europe is a
guaranteed two years. I live in the US, and while you can *try* to take
it back to a store after the 90-day warranty, there's a good chance
they'll refuse to handle it.

A store is under no obligation to take back a unit after such a long time.
