One more Q.

Can I just point the XBOX at a SMB file share, and have it stream videos
from that, or do I need a media center PC, I would have thought the later,
but its worth asking.

Reason for this, the Media Center PC is a LAPTOP (for now, it will be a PC
in about 6 months), I was going to store all my clips on a SAN, Vistas Media
Center will use the files from the SAN and I presume the XBOX would also see
these as it goes via the PC.

It is my understanding that you will require MCE 2005 to accomplish this.
THink of the media centre extender as just another monitor to your PC
though -- you still need the PC to do the network connections to your files.
Hope that helps

You need a Media Center Edition computer to be able to stream videos:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...er/default.mspx You can,
however, use the Xbox 360 as an Extender for a regular PC by following the
information here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/pcsetup You will be able to
stream music and pictures from the PC.

Assuming I'm even understanding the question correctly you can stream video
to the xbox (with regular XP home) using ccxgui.

Can't help you with that, sorry. I'm stuck with my old xbox for now.
