I'd say the following:
RPG: Oblivion
Racing: PGR3
Sport: Rockstar Table Tennis
FPS: COD2
That's the major food groups covered...
Best game so far: Oblivion.
If you get those 4 and perhaps Condemned you'll have a good set of games
that'll keep you busy for a while.

PGR3
NBA 2K6 or Top Spin 2
Kameo
Condemned
Oblivion

Both are great but are too different to be considered the same genre.
GRAW is slow and tactical to the extreme whereas COD2 is a fast paced
arcade shooter. They are in different genres but both are the best of
their genre.

That is being way to technical on 'your' part.
Both are FPS games which falls under one genre (FPS).

Aha... Battlefield 2: Modern Combat... You threw me there for a
second...
Is that actually a FPS or is it more of an action game? (That's how
ToTheGame describes it...)
They show 4 FPS in release:
Call of Duty 2 - 90.1% (Gamerankings)
Far Cry Instincts: Predator - 77.6% (Gamerankings)
Prey - 82.6% (Gamerankings)
Quake 4 - 75.9% (Gamerankings)
Which is odd because that means they don't consider Perfect Dark to be
a FPS either (80.8% Gamerankings.)
Of all these titles the only two I've played are CoD2 (great!) and
Perfect Dark (not great!)

Ha, Condemned can be beaten in around 6 hours.

I don't think it bombed. Mattuzzi just didn't get it. When Halo 2 is the
most popular game played by 360 owners online, it isn't a joke to name Halo
2 as the best game available for the 360.

Sim-style racing: PGR3
Arcade-style racing: Burnout
FPS: Call of Duty 2 (except it stunk online)
Shooter: Ghost Recon:AW
Sports: I liked NBA Live, but I haven't tried table tennis...if you
consider that a sport
RTS: Lord of the Rings (from the demo, at least)
Action/Adventure: Kameo or Tomb Raider?
Platformer: Has there been one?

"can" be played in the third person.
Just because it gives you that option doesn't make it in an entirely
different genre.
Everyone on my friends list plays it in the 1st person view.
Again you guys are being to technical.
Hell why not say
Racing
Arcade - Burnout Revenge
Arcade/Sim - PGR 3
Sim - Moto GP3 until Forza or Toca is released anyway
If we did that we would be here all day and confusing the hell out of the
original poster.

Don't waste your time with Far Cry or Q4. They definitely fall under not
great. Prey would fall under the almost great but short single player and
just ok but lacking bigtime in the online department.

I thought it was second person (as in over the shoulder view), but it can be
played first person too.

over the shoulder view is third person. 2nd person would have you
playing the game from someone else in the squad/story's viewpoint,
which would be very odd indeed.

Most genres don't even have multiple games yet for the 360 so lets just
go with "best games".
1. Oblivion (prefer the PC version tho)
2. Call of Duty 2
3. Tomb Raider Legend
4. Kameo
5. Burnout Revenge

You're right, that would be skewed to see in gaming LOL. Anyway, I prefer
first person shooters, though some 3rd P-shooters are cool too. It would be
great if games gave the choice to be played in either mode; I know some do.

i don't mind either really, as long as they're done right.
usually you find if a game has both modes, one will be a bit crappy,
as the developer will have concentrated on one, then jus added the
other in later (take Oblivion as a great example of this.)

Ack! I d/l the demo. AWFUL control scheme, IMHO. I had no problems with
the first two in the series. Why do they have to fix what isn't broken?

What is wrong with it? I had the choice of getting the 360 or the PC
version, and went with the 360 as it played so well with the 360 pad.
Very good game IMO.
