Nah the £400 mark would be a huge turn-off. If they want to sell it, it
needs to be cheaper.

About ~$500 more than I am willing to spend.

| Like Paul Smith said £400+ easliy since it is Blu-Ray and it has a hard
disk, I would imagin Sony would make a loss if it was any less I would have
thought. The amont of money that the parts cost and how much they have spent
on development.
Anyway who would want to pay that sort of Money for a "Lean Mean Grillin
Machine".

given the cost of the new technology, price will be affected by what they
intend to package with it??? eg wired \wireless controller... wireless
networking??? any costing model for there online play network???
not sure what to make of there intention to stop games being played on
another console, kinda takes the edge of any 2nd hand games market or
rentals etc..... Quite how that will work on none networked systems???

The cost of the technology on the market doesn't apply. People saying
Blu-ray drives cost $x00, that cost isn't to Sony. Sony manufacturer them
from probably a few dozens of dollars (if that). What holds up the cost for
those buying on the market is the development costs, which they like to get
back ASAP.
There was a recent article that said it costs Microsoft about $2 to make a
wireless controller. I can well believe that the company I work for buy in
control pads for less than half a dollar.
All the talk about it being mega expensive is the same rubbish we heard with
the PSP.

I can't see them going through with that, it would destroy their support
among specialist retailers who survive off pre-owned sales.

I reckon we will see it "bundled with games" here in the UK for somewhere
around £650. And I still think it will fly off the shelves, look at the
XXXXed up prices people paid Ebay sellers for a 360? The demand for the PS3
is going to be so much greater - why? I have no idea, never understood the
dominance of the Playstation brand, both previous consoles have been bitter
disappointments for me.

Try $900 : http://www.gamespot.com/news/6144600.html
With a $500 retail price that's up to $400 they'd be losing on each console.
And with their claims of making a million PS3s month, that's a scary $400m
loss per month.
No wonder they're putting it off.
