pc does not connect xbox (original)
|
|
|
| I rebuilt my PC two weeks ago. I got all the windows updates and everything.
I use McAfee Internet Security Suite 7. I went to setup my xbox media center
extender, but for some reason, the computer can not add or recognize xbox.
I'm not sure what is causing the problem. It seems maybe communication or
something. There are times it seems they are talking, but they dont connect.
I chose to configure manually, uncheck make all my documents available and
uncheck same media folders. It then gets to creating user account, then
setup error, retry setup again.
Also, I saw that there is an Update Rollup 1 for Xbox Live? How do I go
about getting it if I do not have Live anymore? Could that be why it's not
working?
I have the PC and Xbox discs version 1.01.
Any help, please.

| Temporarily uninstall McAfee and try the setup again. McAfee, Norton
(Symantec) and third-party firewalls like ZoneAlarm (not the Windows
Firewall) will block the functionality. Updates for the Xbox extender
software are available through links here:

| Thanks for replying. I did do the uninstall of McAfee, tried it again, and
nothing. I even went in and gave the specific files, according to MS
website, to allow full access, and nothing.
I got the v1.01 disks in the mail a while back. I checked the link, and I
went there before. I was not sure if I was able to install the Linksysv101
software. I take it it is different than the v101 setup disk sent in the
mail?
Have you had this much trouble?
Thanks,
Nate

| I don't know what you received in the mail, Nate, and didn't realize you
were talking about running a Linksys version extender. I thought you had an
Xbox 360 which was why you were posting here. For Linksys extender issues,
you should contact their support section.

| .... I have the original xbox, and the media center extender for xbox. The
link you gave me pointed me to the Linksys download.
Has ms fixed the issue or is it hopeless?
