Nerd Press. 23 May 2060
Today Microsoft released information on its Xbox Revelation at the
umbiqutious E3. Its a 100kg dodecahedron with a 2 inch quantum sealed lead
casing. At its core a configurable quantum plate capable of performing, in a
second, every instruction done in the year 2006. The holographic memory bed,
using Gamma lasers, can store 20 YottaBytes of information and powering the
juggernaut is GeneralElectrics brand new Micro Fluidized Bed Nuclear Reactor.
The Xbox supports the new HD-VR standard that turns your room into a High Def
bonanza of the cyber landscapes you intend to visit. I for one can't wait to
visit the fantastical landscapes of Morrowind:Lords.
The lead casing is needed to protect the user from the Nuclear and Gamma
radiation generated in the xbox, and has the added benefit, due to its
weight, of being difficult to steal. Microsoft's Consumer Relations Manager
points out "We've had some criticizim of the weight of the machine but this
Xbox, like a fridge, will be delivered and installed at your house free of
charge.". Neat.
While a considerable amount of power is needed to keep the quantum plate
at well below freezing operating temperatures and power the gamma lasers,
there is plenty of energy left over for other uses. As Microsoft's Marketing
Manager informs us "The Revelation comes with a standard power cord but
unlike most household appliances it supplies power rather than draws. You can
power a four bedroom house with an average number of appliances and lighting.
Saving you thousands a year in power costs.". Indeed.
Since the advent of government and scientific Quantum computers in 2052,
programmers and designers became increasingly crafty, thanks to Microsoft's
child company InIBM (A merger of MS's takeover of Intel and IBM). It was in
2055 that InIBM pioneered Retro Emulation(RE) the ability of the quantum
plate to configure itself to emulate pre-quantum computers allowing them to
run software from past years. It was this capacity that enticed large
businesses to adopt Quantum Plate based computers and reduced the
manufactoring cost. In 2058 MS child company My-ATI suggested that Quantum
Graphics were to be like nothing before. As My-ATI's Managing Director
informs us "We realized from RE that we could design quantum configurations
rather than a dedicated quantum plate for graphics. Essentually you could
configure the general processing power of the quantum plate into a combined
CPU and GPU. This means when there's no GPU running you'd have a very, very
powerful general purpose computer.". Amazing.
With only a 15% share in the industry ASony-idia showed demonstrations
of their Universe Synthesizer running on flat screens. It looked impressive,
but the public is weary of ASony-idia producing CGI that their machines are
expected to produce. The demonstrations of the Revelation I saw were running
on Beta Machines and this is the end of the line in terms of graphics it
can't get any better. I couldn't discern any difference between reality and
Morrowinds:Lords, it really is that good. Xbox Revelation is expected to
release on 27th September 2060. Start saving your pennies. Now.
