| For a weekend, anyway, and on a strange date.
When Microsoft originally unveiled their redesigned Xbox Live, part of the
plan was to offer free Gold-level weekends to Silver users in an attempt to
tease them into purchasing a year-long subscription. They haven't held such
a weekend just yet, but that changes in April.
Starting on April 1st, a Verizon-sponsored 72-hour weekend of free Gold
access will kick off. Anyone with an Xbox 360 will then have a chance to see
what it's like to play games online against their buds and strangers alike,
something sure to kick some more money Microsoft's way when the promotion
comes to an end.
There's no word on when the next promotional weekend will be held.
