You can use a non Media center PC to stream music and pictures, but not
video.

I would say no. If you compare the different generations to each other,
this "next-gen" is not the great leap that other generations were.

As an example, I recently played Prince of Persia: Sands of Time on the
original Xbox. I also recently played Kameo on the 360. Graphics-wise,
Kameo is clearly better, with everything having more detail, lots of
wavy grass, lots of floating particles with pretty lighting effects, and
some fun battle scenes with hordes of enemies fighting in realt-time.
All that said, Sands of Time compares very well: gorgeous environments
and fluid gameplay. You just have less stuff moving on the screen at
the same time.

Now, I also own a PS2. I can still remember the first time I played GTA
3. I played that game for 3 days straight just marvelling at how
in-depth the world looked. One time I even stood on the roof of a car
so I could sight-see around the city

I recommend you wait, and get the most out of your current console.
Anyhow, that's *my* experience, and I'm not going to get drawn into a
debate over it. Your best bet is to find a friend that has a 360 and
check it out for yourself.
