Hi,I hope that Microsoft will make a Windows OE to put inside the XBOX360.

It should be the best computer in the world,if only it had a Windows inside
to navigate on the web and do other applications.

Surely that would just be a Windows PC then? a kinda pointless thing
to do and it would blurr the lines between PC and console even more
not a nice thought!!!

Again, I disagree mostly. It will blur the lines, but that's not a bad
thing. I for one would love to be able to check my email, and read news on
the 360. An internet browser would be awesome. As long as the main focus
is GAMES, the rest would be cool added bonuses.

Personally speaking, I need to keep a very close eye on my business when im
awake, and I have counters all over my house - one on my laptop, two
upstairs on the PC - they all run 24/7 - they are the virtual heartbeat of
my company if you like. When on the 360, it sucks because I can go hours
without even glancing at the counter, and when something isn't right, I
don't notice. Having the ability to run a web site on the 360 in the
dashboard would solve that problem for me.

I am sure there are lots of people who would love to have access to
sometimes important, other times, just good to have information on the
dashboard.

I say bring it on, before Sony does!

Badass.

I'm with Badass Scotsman. Look at it this way. If you could run a Microsoft
OS on a 360 you would have a computer that would have more power than the
current generation of Apple Macs. Also the cost to purchase would be GREATLY
less than any Mac. Well near as a mac mini but cost compaired to power of a
mac mini. Hummm. Microsoft should start producing computers like apple do.
That way software deveolpers would have a standard platform to work with
rather that having to think about everybodys different computer specs.

Too late. I use the PSP web browser for exactly what you say. It tkes a
fraction of the time to boot of a PC and is wireless. I use it 95% for games
but occasionally I want to check someting - or read mails and it's there.
I'd use the xbox for the same.

I hope sony add this to the PS3 because then MS will be forced to follow
suit.

Well i can't see how you would be able to pull it up midgame, there's
already been issues with media streaming in games, i.e. RR6 etc.

But on the full dash i could 'possibly' see what you're getting at...
However, it would be practically useless in that it would have to
support flash, java to view many pages on the net nowadays and of
course that would mean of course that the 360 will become the target
of many hackers/whatever etc.

Hasn't xp media center got a plugin to surf the net/read mail? As the
360 is a true MCE i was under the beleif you had full control of the
Media center and its plugins... Could be wrong though. ...Probably am.

Another alternative... (I'm getting smart now) would be to maybe setup
the xp connect software on a machine that you have running and find a
mail client that will download your emails and snapshot them out in
jpeg format that you can view through the 360's dash.

Or.. Howabout using FFXI, it has a built in mail reader, you may be
able to change the smtp settings etc.. I'm not 100% about that, but
you get an x@pol.com address that you could forward all your mail to,
if you felt quite desperate... but that would require you loading up
Play online browser to view them (1 minute or so).

MIcrosoft should produce an XBOX360 Monitor and keyboard too and we will
have the best and cheap computer in the entire world.

Thanks Stu for stating the obvious. We were suggesting that if there was an
OS on the console then it would be the most powerfulist home computer (one
of). Microsoft should serious consider producing computers to this level and
this cheap then apple wouldn't stand a chance

If I were Microsoft and was interested in such a thing, I'd make a
dashboard app as you mention, not something that you could jump into from
whatever game you were playing. What little OS the 360 has probably
doesn't allow for the type of user level multitasking that would be
required to do that.

You could probably hack up something to do that, but ugh, it's be ugly,
slow, and only useful as a "look what I can do!" type of thing, as opposed
to being something easy to use.

Would be better to just get something like remote desktop working on the
360, and then you could control your entire PC via the 360. Hahahaha!

Hardware-wise, the Xbox 360 is hardly the most powerful thing the home PC
market has seen. "Best bang for the buck", maybe. But remember that
Microsoft is selling the console at a loss. Were it being sold as a
normal PC, it'd cost closer to $800. Also remember that XP will want
256MB just to boot. And I won't even talk about the pathetically small
HDD.

Anyways, why would you want Windows on the 360 anyways? Things like web
and email don't require a full Windows OS. As I mentioned, these could
just be dashboard applications.

Linux would be a lot more useful. Less overhead, and could still be
useful for many applications as the XBox illustrated.

Well you CAN navigate the web using the 360! Of course you NEED a Media
Center PC and the Browser Module to install on the PC. Run Media Center on
the 360 and startup the Browser and then you have WEB Access. Works ok, but
no Keyboard or mouse support. so it's a bit hard to navigate with the
joystick. You also have to Enter your Favorite links on your PC first
because well you can't type them in! It's better then Nothing at all, but
the PC is still better. It doesn't look to bad on a HDTV though.
