XBOX with Surround Sound
|
|
|
| Hi there,
I have a Panasonic 42" tv and a Surround Sound System (Panasonic as
well). I bought the Ms Advanced Multimedia Pack to connect my xbox to
the Surround Sound System (I'm guessing all this does is improve the
sound). So did that, no problem... got the nice sound coming out.
However, I still have no picture. All information I see says to
connect the svideo cord on the XBOX to the reciever... surround sound
system. But how do I get the picture? Do I have to buy another svideo
cord to connect directly to the tv's svideo? Or should there be a
setting on the tv to read the svideo from the receiver? I do have an
HDMI cable going from the TV to the receiver already.
If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.
Thanks
Greg

| you will need a second svideo cable to connect the TV to the receiver and
that will produce the picture
i have the same set up and that is what i have done

You need both an audio and video cable from your 360 to your receiver or TV.
In this case, the audio would be the optical cable (or TosLink cable) -
this provides audio data to your receiver for surround sound. This only
carries audio - no video(picture) signals.
For video, you have a few choices.
If your TV supports HDTV signals, you'll definitely want to take advantage
of that. For a HDTV signal, you'll need one of the following: component
video cables (3 RCA type cables with Red, Blue and Green tips), VGA or
DVI-I/DVI-A (these are the same as the ones your PC uses), or HDMI (you're
already familiar with this one).
The 360 only supports component video and VGA. It does not support HDMI.
If your receiver does not support these types of connections, your best bet
is to connect the video cables of your choice directly from your 360 to
your TV.
Alternatively, if you want your Receiver to be your hub, you could connect
your 360's video cables to the receiver, but you'll probably have to run
additional cables of the same type from the receiver to your TV. (I'm
guessing your receiver won't be able to translate a non-HDMI signal into
HDMI - check your manual for details.)
The reason you want to use component video or VGA is that these
connections support HDTV - which your Panasonic clearly supports if it
already has a HDMI port. You'll get MUCH better graphics out of your 360
using component or vga compared to svideo.

But then you're not taking advantage of the 360's HD graphics. You should
at least use component video cables.

| For the best picture you want to use Component Cables, for HD! Your not
going to get a HD picture from the Xbox using a Svideo cable! Depending on
your Surround Sound Receiver, Does your Receiver allow Svideo Inputs into it
to output to the HDMI cable to the TV? Yours may not. Does your Receiver
have a Svideo Output? If so you may have to plug a cable from that to a
Input on your TV. Of course you'll have to switch the TV's Input to see the
Picture. Or you can just plug the Xbox Video Directly into the TV, you
don't need to plug into your Receiver, just have your Toslink Cable plugged
into the Receiver for surround sound, and plug the Svideo cable into your
TV. Again Component (Red,Blue,Green) is the only way to get HD from the
Xbox to your TV if you have a HDTV or even a EDTV to get at least 480P which
most Xbox games support.
