Geraldo started with real credibility and later slid into tabloid-style pap.
He's hardly a quack, though. He has a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law, and
has worked with the N.Y. D.A.'s office and a poverty law program. He also
holds a post-graduate degree in journalism from Columbia.
As a journalist some of his early stories resulted in significant
improvement in people's lives. Most notably the residents of Willowbrook
State School who were kept in deplorable conditions until Geraldo did a
sensational story regarding their plight (he snuck in the middle of the
night with a cameraman and filmed residents living in the most deplorable
conditions imaginable). He went on to positions with Good Morning America,
World News Tonight and 20/20. Among the important stories he covered were
the effects of Agent Orange, drug company price gouging, and Defense
Department rip-offs.
Geraldo's a whore, not a quack.
