Xbox live starter kit

An ethernet cable only costs about $5 tops on eBay. And the headset is
a necessity. Do you want to play with people and not be able to talk
to them? Also, some people connect their XBOX wirelessly, so they
wouldn't need the cable. And the fee we pay for XBOX Live is not that
much considering we get continued service and great quality from
Microsoft, stuff you cant get from Sony's free online service.
Enough arguing. WELCOME TO XBOX LIVE!!! You'll love it, especially on
the XBOX 360!

| Getting broadband today - got the ADSL modem and everything. In preparation,
I bought the £40 (ouch!) Xbox live starter kit over the weekend....
confident that would include all I needed to get started - I mean, at that
price it must do?
So, why doesn't it include an ethernet patch lead? I mean, a way to connect
it to the Modem is surely the most obvious and simple bit of equipment you
need to get this working. Much more important than the cheesy headset.
Since I've heard no-one else complain about this, I guess I'm the only one
to find this dissapointing? Its extra irritating as the shops that sell the
Xbox stuff don't usually sell ethernet leads - I'll have to go to a
specialist PC shop.
Oh well. Advance wanring of any other bits I'll need to buy at the computer
shop to get this working would be really useful! :-)

Costs around 30 quid if you get it on line. I think the highest I've=20
ever paid is 32 quid.

The patch lead will vary depending on your configuration. In some cases=20
you will need a cross over, some people use a wireless bridge, in other=20
cases they would complain that they didn't get a 30m cable. They they=20
would have to redesing the box to get the extra cable in. A 1 meter=20
patch lead is pretty much useless to most people. I run a 15 meter cable=20
myself though the coving at the top of the walls.
You could always as your IT dept if they have a spare cable, they may be=20
able to give you a 2 or 3 meter one.

Depends on your config. Are you using just the Xbox or do you have a PC=20
connected too? If you have a PC too I'd recomend getting a router or=20
combined ADSL router (very little price difference). Its a PITA=20
switching and rebooting each time and internet connection sharing is a=20
bit of a botched solution really.

| Did your computer come with an ethernet cable?
The main point of the starter kit is your subscription. In the US it costs
$60 and includes a game, a year subscription and a headset. Being that it
costs $5.99/a month if you pay it monthly, this is a great deal. The
headset is a little chincey, but is necessary for quality game experience.
If you are real careful with it, it won't break. Ethernet cords are cheap,
you can get them anywhere. I don't see why anyone would think it should be
included with a online subscription service... plus, how many people have
thier dsl/cable modem in reach of a standard 6ft ethernet cable? Most
people have to run long ones or else use wireless.
