Xbox 360 might get HD-DVD

The past few months, all indications were that Xbox 360 (the next
generation Xbox, Xbox2 to most people) would be getting standard DVD-9.
dual layered DVD. but several reports now say that Microsoft is looking at
both blue-laser formats, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. it seems that they're leaning
toward HD-DVD, as they were in the past, before
things seemed to go in the direction of having just standard DVD.
(so Xbox2 might be back to where it started, having HD-DVD)

uh, and what about the supposed on-again, off-again merging of the two
next-gen formats ? It seems to change everyday!
who knows, maybe Xbox 360 (and Playstation3) will end up with both HD-DVD
and Blu-Ray, one way or another.
or maybe we'll see an all out format war, with a Playstation3-backed Blu-ray
vs an Xbox360-backed HD-DVD

| The experts are saying that HD-DVD and blue-ray won't be available to the
public til early next year. Due to talk about allowing drives to read both
formats. So it is highly unlikely that the xbox will have it. Seeing how
it is being released in Nov of this year.

I've been saying all along that microsoft would have been stupid to
bypass an HD disc format of some sort. They would have limited themself
to the now FULL dvd9 format(ie. GTA:San Andreas)
So with that in mind, how can you get better graphics if your disc is
already full? The only option is better compression, but compression
takes time to process... Larger disc is the way to go, and they can
pull it off so late in the game.. they are launching this thing this
year arent they?? not even 6 months from now!? They better have that
format nailed down.

experts? You can buy 1st Gen blu-ray now if you want, albeit from Japan.
That doesn't sound totally unlikely.
