Can the Xbox be powered on and off using the Media Center Extender remote?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but after three days of researching
MCE I could not find this answer.

Thank you in advance,

I'm pretty sure that the USB ports that accept the DVD playback plug-in
aren't active when the box is off. Which means you can't send a "turn on"
signal to the XBox without walking over and pushing the button.

I have the MCE, and no it doesn't turn off the Xbox. It only turns off the
MCE connection to your PC.

have a look on http://www.xbox-scene.com/ under tutorials there might be
something there... alternatively to IR you could wire a button into your
controller using the spare yellow wire.
