Yes the HD is an IDE drive.
However why would you want to do this ?
Your PC will not be able to read the HD format as it is not one supported by
Windows.

What a bold assumption. Windows isnt the only OS as I am sure you are
aware.

Indeed -- but with the total lack of any pertinent information from the
original poster an assumption is all you can make.

To be honest, I had the same reaction, too. So out of curiousity, I
took my old XBox drive, plugged it into my Linux desktop and tried to
mount it (first without specifying a file system, then -t vfat) but
neither worked. Linux saw the device (/dev/hdc) but couldn't see any
partitions and spat out something about a bad superblock. If I wanted
to format it, etc. that would work however that would be one expensive
8-10GB drive. There may be a kernel module to allow me to read the XBox
FS, but a quick google search didn't turn much up (everything was about
replacing the drive in the XBox).

Well if you are not afraid to try Linux, then there is a way to format
the drive. First, go to http://knoppix-fr.org/ and download the French
version of Knoppix. Next, put the CD in your computer and attach the
xbox hard drive as the primary master (remove your computer's current
hard drive so there's no chance you will mess it up). Boot the machine
off the CD; it should load Linux onto your RAM (I suggest at least
256MB). When it's up, log in as root and run a program called fdisk
(for information on how to use fdisk, type: man fdisk). If the xbox is
the primary master and your computer uses parallel ata, the drive will
be referred to as /dev/hda. If you use SATA or SCSI, it will be
/dev/sda. Good luck, and remember you're doing this at your own risk
(however if you remove your current hard drive you have almost nothing
to worry about).
