Author Received Xbox replacement power cord...

....and mama, did they put the cart before the horse here. At one end this
thing looks like a standard, round edge, notched power cable like you
might also find on a first-run Playstation or a Sega Saturn. At the other
end you have an independent circuit breaker box that must be ten cubic
inches at the very least. I can't fault Microsoft for putting customer
safety on the same level as liability protection, but this things feels
way overengineered to me.

I don't mean for this to sound like a complaint either. It's just funny to
see this big honking box at the end of my new power cord. Anybody else
gtet theirs yet?

Yup. Got mine today. I was just going to post a praising of Microsoft for
engineering the thing for our protection, and the super speedy delivery.

Recievd mine today as well. I was just completely in awe at the work they
did to fix the problem. Shipped out fast, and they put some serious thought
and money into it.

Thumbs up.

What courier service did they use to ship it? USPS, Fedex, UPS?

Plain old USPS, and it looks like they shipped the same day that I placed
the order. Looks like they've had crates of these things sitting around
ready to drop in the mail.

Upon reflection, I'm starting to think that the actual problem was with
the transformer inside the Xbox, rather than with the power cord itself.
Apart from the circuit breaker component, the spec of cable used it
exactly the same as the original cord. And since version 1.4 and 1.6
Xboxes don't require the new cord, that tells me that there's safety
features in tha power supply already. Again, not a complaint, since it's
easier to send out 3 million power cords at six bucks a piece than to
recall 3 million units and replace power supplies at maybe $30 a piece.

Those are just guesses based on estimates of manufacturing and material
expenses incurred by Chinese factories, and not based on any actual
proprietary or documented information about Microsoft expenditures or
purchase requisitions.

Yep, the power cords are fine themselves, work perfectly, this simply
affects the Xboxes manufactured during the previously mentioned dates. As
Microsoft has stated, it only affects 1 in 10,000 Xboxes and the issue only
presents itself when the Xbox is submitted to constant over-voltage or
mechanical failure. However, the current power cords are unable to
effectively respond to the electrical hazard, but the new ones will cut
power [and then you call support to get a new cord or fix your Xbox]. I
kinda like the new cords and extra protection.

BTW, of course Star Trek always revolves around San Francisco, that's where
Starfleet is located! However, didn't the first episode start in a
cornfield?

Kind regards,

As far as the speedy delivery is concerned, they don't ship the cords
from the same area. I live in Oklahoma and got mine sent from Fort
Worth TX.

Who mentioned where the shipping emanated? I don't live in Oklahoma (go
USC!) and mine also shipped from Fort Worth.

Mine just came today and it is just a plain cord like the old one
without any circuit breaker.

The press releases stated that boxes manufacturered on different dates will
indeed have a different cord.
