GameDreamZ.com |Don’t expect much, but in a year where next-gen hype is
going to become THE big thing; MS knows that if anyone is capable of
slashing the tires on Sony’s PS3 bandwagon, it’s the Chief. A Bungie
buddy of mine assured me that while he can’t specify when, where, or in
what form, the Masterchief WILL be seen promoting the Xenon, this year!
This makes sense historically too. Bungie first revealed Halo 2 at the
X02 event during the summer of 2002, 10 months after Halo 1 shipped !!

Ok. I believe H3 has been pretty much completed for some time
(notwithstanding console architecture issues)and it's now being polished
'til Bungie can see their faces in it.

Most people who spend time in here know that H2 has a cut 'n paste feel
to it and I reckon that the "good stuff" has been saved for H3 (E3 demo
that everyone moans about not being in H2? You know we're gonna see it.)

As for the timing of inserting H3 into the market, I don't think one
could do better than Q4 this year.

First, what more assured way of shifting a new console than by including
a massively popular franchise? Remember the rumours from a month back
concerning H3 being pre-loaded on the hard-drive version of the next
iteration?

Second, H2's shelf life will be expiring rapidly by then but not so much
as to remove it from the public eye. Strike while the iron is hot.

Third, Live: The very second that you think, "hmmm, I luurve these games
'n all, but I know each one sooo well," is the moment you're hankering
for H3.

In a nutshell, the next box is Microsoft's killer punch against Sony.
They're betting (maybe correctly) that launching before PS3 will give
them the leg up to finally equal and (far more importantly) pass Sony's
sales. Make no mistake, *this* launch is the one MS has had it's eye on
since waaay before Xbox1 came to market, and as such they will not want
to miss any opportunity that will help max out the sales.

Sony have had the hype machine working overtime and also for ages....
This could either have a good effect on people or a bad one.
Good one for the numpties that think Cell technology MUST be the best
because it's from Sony
Bad for Sony because, if like me, you're sick to the teeth of hearing about
Cell technology - and because it's been talked about for so long, it sounds
dated.

I think it's entirely plausible. The single player game wasn't all it could
have been and IMO did not represent three years work. Granted, the online
bit is very good and has been designed and implemented very well, but I
still don't think that took three years to do. The story is pants and is
obviously crying out for a conclusion (or at least another instalment).

I'm not going to go so far as to stick my neck out and say it will be a
launch title. I will say that the information about the launch of the
console is pretty tenuous at the moment, and that we are in the middle of
the twice a decade willy waving competition that pops up amongst the console
manufacturers. It's all smoke and mirrors at the moment; the actual machines
haven't been shown yet, the specs haven't been released. Nobody outside a
handful of top execs at each company knows for sure when their machines will
launch, and there's a strong possibility that it simply may not have been
decided yet.

What is happening is a lot of sandbagging, staring and you-go-first kinda
bollocks that always precedes these events.

Is it just me or does anyone else think MS are rushing out the Xbox2?
Remember the Dreamcast. A nice little machine that was well ahead of
everything else on the market at the time. Sales were poor though as
everyone thought "I'll just wait for the PS2 to come out".

Will MS overhaul Sony's dominance. Personally I doubt it. The reason
being there are now over 50 million PS2 owners and around 15 million
Xbox owners. I guess quite a few will own both (I do, and I do prefer my
Xbox but GT4 may make me dust off my PS2 for a while). I read recently
that the PS2 still outsells the Xbox by 4 to 1 (perhaps someone can
confirm that or I'll dig out the link). Most owners are loyal, they have
a PS2 and they don't want an Xbox, I know I felt that way but was given
an Xbox as a present. If all these PS2 owners decide not to switch
allegiance and wait it out for the PS3 then MS wont make that big a
dent. Only time will tell I guess.

Another thing that makes me wonder is what's in the Xbox2.
I know nothing is finally and it's mostly rumours that are circulating
but what extra is the Xbox2 going to offer me as a nextgen console.
A faster processor (PowerPC G5, are these manufactured by IBM?), a
faster GPU by ATI, wireless controllers (which is good if true), a
customizable case (gimick money spinner there for sure). Sound? who
knows! And standard DVD drive (if the rumours are true)

Out around Oct/Nov apparently. Xbox1 for £50 by December perhaps.

What's Sony giving us. A Cell chip (manufactured by IBM) Will it be as
good as they claim? BluRay disc compatible with standard DVD. Backwards
compatibility to PS2 and who knows what else.

The PS3 sounds more nextgen to me, perhaps someone can define nextgen
for me.

I known IBM will be smiling either way, that's for sure.

Either way, I known both will be magic machines and if you want the best
of both worlds, buy both consoles when they are available.

Beer.

I hope they were working on the X2 version at the same time. They need some
excuse for all the bugs they left in it.
