Did I Get Screwed At Gamestop
|
|

| I bought their Microsoft HDTV Cable Microsoft XBox High Definition AV Pack.
The cable plugs into XBOX and has 3 component cables and two RCA cable for
audio and a composite video cable. There is no port for Dolby Digital. Did
I buy an useless cable because I want DD or can am I missing something?
Thanks

I believe you can get 3rd party ones that do have a optical out.

| The Microsoft Xbox High Definition AV Pack has six ports:
Three component video
Two composite audio
One fiber optic for Dolby Digital
The HD pack should come with the necessary component cabling and standard
composite audio cables, but you will have to purchase the optical audio
cable separately if you want to output to a digital or surround sound audio
receiver.

| There should be a port for an optical cable. Looks just like a square hole.
You can also try asking at http://www.hdtvarcade.com for more help.

You didn't get screwed. You just bought a useless product.

| I'd suggest you look more closely. The Xbox HD AV Pack has six ports, three
component video, two composite audio and a fiber optic for Dolby Digital
sound. Look for a small "flap" over what appears to be a square hole on the
large portion at the top.

I am not convinced it is the Microsoft product. The OP had:
"The cable plugs into XBOX and has 3 component cables and two RCA cable for
audio and a composite video cable."
This has composite video out, something the Microsoft HD pack does not have.
I based my reply on this, as no doubt did a few others. It is possible that
the OP is just wrong, granted, but this is the only information we have...

| There was actually more information in the original post. Specifically, The
OP stated he/she had purchased a "Microsoft XBox High Definition AV Pack".
The only products out there that have just the component video and composite
audio are things like the "Mad Catz Universal Component Cable for Xbox/PS2"
The latter just doesn't sound anything like the former. In addition, the MS
XBox HD AV Pack has three component and two composite (RCA) jacks as
described. It is also notable that the optical digital audio port is
difficult to see if you are not familiar with the standard. It is a lot
easier to believe the OP apparently didn't recognize the two composite jacks
as both being audio and missed the small optical port, then that he/she
provided the wrong name for the product that was purchased.
Half the people responding to the OP apparently know what's on a MS XBox HD
AV Pack. Half do not. That's about right for a newsgroup.

"The cable plugs into XBOX and has 3 component cables and two RCA cable for
audio and a composite video cable"
Breakdown:
3 component cables ( 3)
2 RCA cable (2)
a composite video cable(1)
For a total of six cables.
I would hate to think that they counted a cable twice, but anything is
possible. Besides, a lot of people label anything as "Microsoft" if it is
for Xbox. I will say that I have not even seen a cable like they they
describe, and that if they can count 5 cables and get six then overlooking
the optical port is not out of the realm of the believable.
Only the original post knows for sure.
As it is, and I repeat this, I am not convinced that it was a Microsoft HD
Cable. At least from the description given. But anything is possible.

You're missing something. Look on cable close to where it plug into the
back of the Xbox. Tere is a port in which to plug in an optical cable,
which you will need to buy seperately.
I had the same problem.
