The Xbox 360? Looks like it.

Until Microsoft makes their official announcement on it, this one is still
firmly in the rumor category, but we've gotten word from one of our trusted
sources that Microsoft has pretty much settled on a name for the next Xbox:
the Xbox 360 (let that sink in for a moment, because you're probably going
to be hearing it a lot for the next several years). Our source, who has
worked on several projects involving the Xbox and the Xbox 360, has seen the
proposed packaging and other design elements for the new console, and says
that as of right now the console is being branded as the "Xbox 360." That's
definitely not that first time we've heard that mentioned as one of the
possible names for the next-generation Xbox; last year a marketing firm
conducted a survey where they asked people whether they thought Xbox 360,
PlayStation 3, or Nintendo N5 sounded more "next-gen" (apparently Microsoft
was worried that calling their new console the "Xbox 2" would make it seem
older or less "cutting-edge" than the PlayStation 3).

So...the next Microsoft console is going to be circular? (gives a whole
new meaning to the term "pizza box" ;) Or is it going to be spherical?
(Okama GameSphere, anyone?)

heh, seems like they could play on something like like.
Xbox^2 (squared) - sorta Game "Cube" like.
maybe do a special edition of a Game "Sphere", pack it into a Death Star
like case and package a dozen Star Wars themed games with it. And I thought
it was getting difficult to stack the various sizes and shapes of equipment
already in my entertainment system. lol
They will proly just end up with a name like some of their other products
are going to.

Simple marketing tactics. Nintendo's hyping the "Nintendo Revolution".
A revolution is a 360-degree rotation. It's a "Me-too!" by Microsoft.

Just wait until Sony announces the Playstation Tetrahedron, or the
Nintendo Dodecahedron... At this rate, a gamer's AV setup will resemble a
game of Blockhead ;)

How can a revolution be a 360 degree rotation? With a 360 rotation, they'd
end up in the exact same direction. I thought revolutionary would mean
something like a total change of direction.

Come out with 1 game called '357' for the 360 that you can use either 2 180
controllers or
2 .45 12round mag pistols shooting 5-0 with K9's on 1200x800 while
drinking 151, taking 1-a-days

The second hand makes one revolution a minute on a watch. What's hard to
undertand about that?

Stupid. I would rather see it called Xbox 2 then some dumb 360
bullshit. What's wrong with Xbox Next either? Marketing sure
overthinks these things..

Says the guy readying his delusional panic trolling for yet another console
generation. Though I guess it wouldn't be accurate to say you've come full
circle, since you never really left square one. The only thing you're
imitating is yourself.

Agreed, it would be a bad name. I can't believe they're hung up on how
"cutting edge" the name sounds. I think I speak for most people when I say
that the quality of games coming out is the most important thing. How the
name of the system sounds was not something I'd even considered.

| "Xbox" was an awful name to begin with. Microsoft should just ditch that
name altogether. Go with "Microsoft Xenon" or something.
But I agree that the games are more important than the name. But we're
gamers. They're thinking about the public at large... and the "first on the
block" crowd. Even the best games in the world couldn't move the "Two guys
kissing box."

But I spose the target demographic probly can't relate to that, lol.
