Failed Xbox DVDROM: Recall Looming
|

| Looks like Microsoft might soon admit that alot of their earlier Xbox
reversions had problems with problematic DVD drives from certain production
lots.
They may even go as far as refund money for people who paid to have it fixed.
This will be interesting to see unfold over the next few weeks.
Rumour has it that they will make some announcment on it after one of their
Class action lawsuits are set to begin.

| Well - I have that exact original *flop" of a dvd and all. Nothing like
buying Halo 2 - putting it in for the first time only to see "error reading
disk - disk must be dirty" type msg.
I've just decided i'm not buying any more games - maybe a ballpeen hammer -
but not games.
Am I pissed - nah - I've only bought around 25 games so far... they look so
great on the shelf.
My kids are even fed up. Why play a game only to have it freeze on you....
or even watch a movie with it ...
quite frankly - I like the xbox - but mine has become a major embarassment.

Did you buy a used 1st gen Xbox? If so return it, there were issues with the
first batch of Xboxes and DVD drives the new ones are fine. Or is this a new
problem on an old Xbox, if so you should have taken care of it while still
under warrenty.

| I bought the XBox the 1st day the skids rolled in to ToysRUs - the first day
it was released years ago.
I've had dirty disk problems soon after - and yes - I have the WORST of the
DVD drive makes. (phillips)
As well - I have a Yamaha 995V amp - it does DTS, Dolby - you name it - it
can pick up digital (dolby, dts, etc..) from movies on the xbox (when they
don't freeze <ggg> ) - but it never worked with games as far as picking up
the digital / dolby from games. And yes - I have all the cables - optical
cable, etc.....
Never bought an extended warranty - back then - the cost on the box was
450Cdn..... and man - let me tell you - I've spent a couple of G notes on
xBox stuff already ..... I remember that day - dropped 450 on the box,
bought more controllers - and 3 games + tax... - 1 for each of my kids....
so - that was a little investment 4 years ago on xmas eve - the funny thing
is - we were the first ones to have the box before anyone else we knew - and
i figure by now - we were instrumental in the sale of over 10 boxes
already.... (word of mouth will make ya or break ya kinda thing)
Don't get me wrong - I love the XBox - I'm not bashing the technology - just
the hardware I was so fortunate to end up with....

| Aint that the truth!!
MS Doesn't want you modding, but I'm thinking of going this route since I
refuse to buy another one.

On the other hand, if you softmod your Xbox you do not have to buy
anything. And this way you can install the games on the hard drive.
