Stupid game companies? Why not stupid buyers? I don't think Sega is
holding a
gun to any of the few arcades left out there, to buy the games.

Seriously, what arcade owner *in their right mind* wouldn't realize that
virtually every game that is coming out in an arcade format nowadays
will be
coming to the consoles soon after? About the only use for an arcade
nowadays,
and about the only way to keep one making money is by stocking up on
deluxe
cabinets(Daytona, Star Wars Arcade, Time Crisis, HotD, Arctic Thunder,
etc).
Even then, it's tough. The local GameWorks has nothing but deluxe
cabinets and
they are still almost on the verge of closing down(but then again, how
did they
expect to stay in business charging $2+ for these games). ;)

There's an arcade here in Portland that only does classic arcade
machines. They're great!

No.. stupid game companies... I'm assuming that there will be less and less
buyers thus decimating the game companies arcade sales...

It comes down to why even bother building a vid cab any more? Who'se going
to buy one, and how is the company going to come close to having a
profitable arcade business?

Maybe they only use it for advertising for their console sales? If so they
are *really* screwing the ops then.

cabs?

well... yea...

how much do they charge for a kit? $3K?

probably close?

can the op come anywhere near making even that back in the time frame they
have before it's released to console?

don't think so...

Could be somewhere around there. 2 to 3 k for something like that, maybe.

Those that can, will. And the time frame is irrelevant. They may not make
back 100% of that in the time frame, but the thing doesn't explode when the
thing comes out for consoles. Stick it someplace with decent traffic and
you'll make some money off of it well out in the future.

Shit hole "Arcades" are a thing of the past. If there's still operators
trying to run those, then they are just dumb, really. I don't feel too bad
for them.
