I am not good at selecting tvs and I saw a guy ask for some help with an LCD,so i am hoping
that maybe you guys can help me.
I want a 50inch tv with a budget of $2500-3000 and I have been looking at this one for
several weeks now.
I need help by Friday because thats when I plan to buy it.

I hear that xbox360 wont support 1080p,so if I buy a tv with 1080p would the quality
look worse than one with 720p?
I don't know to much so please help.
Thanks

You may be very interested in reading Microsoft's guide on "The HDTV
Rundown" posted here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/expertguide/hdtv.htm There
is a very good explanation of the different formats. Also, there's a very
good list of the different formats Xbox games are capable of here:

First, both sets to which you've posted links support 720P and most of the
games will be produced for that output or 1080i as currently, very few sets
support 1080P.

Second, as far as I know, in the U.S. nothing is being broadcast in 1080P
and I doubt we'll be seeing home players such as High Def DVD players that
support that resolution either, at least not for quite some time.

Third, in order to take full advantage of true 1080P, one would need a
massive screen, probably in the range of 100" as opposed to 56" screen
you're considering which is otherwise quite large. In addition, you would
also need a rather large viewing space.

Now to the specifics. I've been looking at DLP sets, they've become quite
cost competitive and while they do give a somewhat better picture and
viewing experience than an LCD, the big problem with DLP is bulb life; note,
it is even listed in the specs. On a typical LCD, you can expect bulb life
of 60,000 hours; that's 6.8 years assuming you were running the set 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week.

With a DLP, using the same yardstick, you'd only get about a year out of the
bulb. At typical usage, you probably will get 2 to 3 years of bulb life and
replacement bulbs for a set of the type you are considering will run about
$400 so figure you'll buy at least 2 during the life of the set assuming you
replace it in about 6 years.

I figure 6.8 years as a pretty good run for the life of a set and the above
LCD figure is based on running the LCD 24 hours a day. If you figure in
game play, you might run a set 10 or 12 hours a day and assuming the above
average holds for rated bulb life, you could expect to get around 12 years
of life out of the set. If you keep the DLP that long, you likely will have
replaced the bulb, 4 or 5 times.

Many places don't tell you this about a DLP set. If you didn't know it
before, given what you know now, are you still as interested in a DLP set?

I bought my Samsung 61" DLP over a year ago for ~$3500 (which may have
included the external HDTV tuner). So by now perhaps you could get a 50"
for your budget. I love my DLP, of course especially with high def
broadcasts (I don't have cable), especially with gaming. I will have to
replace a bulb someday, but for the better picture quality, and not having
to worry about burned out pixels, it's worth it. My 61" set is only ~100
lbs too, so changing the family room around is no big deal -- my wife and I
moved it from the family room to the dining room by ourselves easily.

Either way you'll enjoy it.
