| You do know that this would break your warranty and your agreement you have
with Microsoft, yes? What do you need to open it for anyway? Depending on
what you are looking for, there may be other routes you can take.

There are in fact six screws, in two rows of three across both the back
and the front. The two center screws are underneath stickers to indicate
tampering, and opening the Xbox voids the warranty. On the other hand,
anybody with experience working on PC's or other consumer electronics
should be able to effect their own repairs without having to pay three
middleman's worth of fees for the official repair services, so if your
Xbox is older than 18 months it's worth opening up.
The only circumstance under which it wouldn't be worthwhile to open the
Xbox is if you're looking at a DVD drive replacement. Consumer complaints
about the DVD drive have been numerous enough that Microsoft is willing to
replace them even on units that are out of warranty and have no current
service contract. That policy isn't official or public, and it may not be
in effect once the new hardware hits the market, so get your complaining
hat out now if that's the part you need serviced.
One last thing? Xbox modification which affects the BIOS or any boot
function will likely get your unit blocked from using the Live service. If
you use Live, this should be a consideration unless you have a redundant
Xbox specifically for that purpose.

| My bad, it is 6 screws.
As for replacing the DVD drive, Microsoft will replace it if you are out of
warranty, but you have to pay to renew (extend) your warranty , around
$75.00 and then they will make the repairs for free. Still have to pay for
shipping and handling. This was what I was told by their service
representative.
I went ahead and got myself a nice Samsung OEM DVD drive from Llama and
replaced it myself instead of paying the $75.00 for a warranty for something
Microsoft should have given for free on all faulty DVD drives.
Because of this screwed in the XXX, and then paying for warranty for faulty
crap drive, I will not get the 360 until it has been out for a while to see
what the mass says about new machine's drive quality.
Cheers.
