| Is it just me, or does it sound like Microsoft is now tying all future
releases of DirectX into the Xbox development cycle? We're only
getting DirectX 10 when Xbox 2 is released. I suppose this ensures
parallel development of titles for both PC and Xbox remain roughly the
same.
However, it could also mean the Xbox will start holding back
innovation on PCs -- i.e. PCs may be ready to jump to DirectX 11 at
some point, but Microsoft won't release it until Xbox 3 is ready and
so on. We PC gamers could be "frozen" while we wait for the Xbox to
catch up to us.
Really, it does sound as if the lines between the Xbox and PC are
intentionally being blurred by Microsoft even more than they are now.
Once the Xbox starts routinely playing games at the highest resolution
possible on HDTVs, then it's become a PC clone.
