XBox 2 Initial Price

| I haven't been following the XBox 2 too closely, but has an initial
retail price been stated/leaked yet? Going on previous major console
launches, I'm betting a $300 range (initially), and I wouldn't be
surprised to see it drop to $250-200 within a year (perhaps by
Christmas). I'm also betting on no pack-in game initially and unless I
find a deal of a lifetime I have no intention of getting an XBox 2
untill we see things in the $150 range.

| I suspect you'll be waiting a while for a $150 price drop on a new console.

| Just buy it when it releases with the 2-year Best Buy warranty. Then
exchange it every 2 years and benefit from the price drops.

Well in the case of the original XBox, I was able to find a used one for
$100 after the first year (when it was still $200 new), so you never know.

| There is rumor of multiple models of Xbox 2 including one that operates as a
PC. That would probably cost more than $300 but the basic system will
probably be in that range. It'll take about 3 years to get down to $150 so
you will be waiting awhile for an Xbox 2 if you want it new. You might find
a used one after a year or two at that price but you take a gamble buying a
used system out of warranty. That might have been fine in the old NES days
but with more delicate cd drives I wouldn't take the chance myself.

I recall that rumor, but I'm not sure I have too much faith in it (kinda
reminds me of the Neo Geo silver vs gold).

I disagree, as long as you buy from a reputable source (eg. a brick &
mortar store) you should be alright. Most offer a 90 day warranty, and
with electronics if the problem doesn't appear after the first few days
chances are you will be good for the long haul. I currently own 2
XBox's I purchased used and haven't had a problem as well as a number of
older cd based systems systems all bought second hand that work
perfectly (Dreamcast, Sega CD, PSOne).
