I thought we were all waiting for Halo 2 (well, waited), HalfLife 2 and
Doom3?
| |
|
| I think GTA is the most over-rated series in business. I playd GTA2 and GTA3
on PC, and it was...boring. Just boring.
Oh well, back to Halo 2 and PGR2...at least until Forza, Halo 3 and PGR3
appear.. :

Oh come on now, GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas are many things but not
boring. How can you get bored with a game that lets you do so much? I just
think it sucks that Sony and Rockstar have the agreement. A simultaneous
launch on XBox/PS2 would have been great. Then I would have bought the
superior XBox version....if for no other reason than the sound would have
been better. Dolby 5.1 is way better than Pro Logic II. Why Rockstar didn't
use DTS again is beyond me.

So few own DTS decoders or home receivers where as most have Dolby Digital. I
agree DTS is superior IMHO.

The PS2 can't handle any DD or DTS in real time. If you get either in a
game on the PS2 they're being streamed off the disc just like from a DVD.
The Xbox only has a dedicated DD chip to deal with that, DTS encoding would
have to be done on the CPU, which would result in unacceptable performance.

| anyone know what type of contract Rockstar has with Sony? obviously there
must be some kind of incentive for delaying the release on xbox and pc. just
curious what it is.

-That's just the problem. The only thing interesting in this game is to
drive around and ignore the missions. Just steal cars and cause mauhem. And
that gets pretty boring after...well, for me, after 10 minutes. I guess I
just want more from my games.

The missions are a blast. Kind of frustrating sometimes, but fun. Come
on---flying planes, DDR-type missions, railshooter missions---and you got
bored after 10 minutes? Did you actually play for longer than that?

| I'm not the original poster, but I think he's right. The missions
were bland on both games, and I didn't care to finish them. I played
both games for about a month and gave them away to a younger brother.
After the initial fun of wandering around, there isn't much to these
games.

Not only is the GTA series great--for the kitchy edge to rockstar's sense of
humor as much as the coolness of the concept. Can you imagine what the next
8 yrs or so is going to bring in those types of games? I have a theory that
GTA was the first big step in what will be a long line of crime / fantasy
sims. That's why people like GTA, because you get to beat up hookers and
shoot down police helos. It's a way to have 5 star game while leading a
zero star life.
With that said, I like guns and hookers and blackjack (forget the blackjack)
so I can't wait until that genre writes some more immersive software.

| I didn't know I was waiting for it. In fact I haven't bothered to play any
of the other ones YET. Thanks for letting me know I wanted it. I can't
wait to not buy it also.

What I'd like to see is a new version of Shadowrun (similar to the
Genesis version) using a GTA type engine.

I like the free roam concept but I would like to have branching morality
paths - and please either skip the hookers or add a few males to the stable.

Okay, I will say that a MMORPG GTA game with the same freedom of action as
the current series would be quite interesting. Same for good software that
felt MMORPG, or at least action oriented along those lines. I think that is
what makes the games interesting (hookers and guns not withstanding). The
police work together when you are bad enough, even calling in the choppers.
The gangs remember the grudges against you. You can chase someone down
across varying landscapes and obstacles. You are free to do what you want
within the framework presented to you. The city moves on, you seem to be
only an occupant or passerby. The next generation (of which San Andreas is
NOT) could be quite interesting, indeed.

I have been waiting for a MMORPG since Vice City. World of Warcraft is great
but I would like to play a MMORPG game that is set in reality.

You may want to take a look at Multi Theft Auto (http://mtavc.com/).

Yeah, it has come a long way. It seems that Rockstar is really missing on
this one if they don't go multi-player.
