I pulled the following article off of Consumer Electronics Daily on 12/13 I
think:

U.S. Xbox sales jumped about 53% in Nov. to about 708,000 units, and
Microsoft's console edged out Sony Computer Entertainment's PS2 in the month
as Sony continued to be hurt by inventory shortages, according to NPD
Funworld's proprietary sales data released last week. In comparison, PS2
sales dropped about 17% to about 696,000 units, according to the data, which
Consumer Electronics Daily received from an industry source.

But PS2 maintained its installed base leadership by a wide margin, as
cumulative U.S. sales increased to about 25.58 million. Xbox's installed
base increased to only about 10.64 million, while Nintendo's GameCube
increased to about 8.22 million. NPD's data showed that GameCube sales
tumbled about 53% in Nov. to about 350,000 units.

NPD's data revealed that about 480,000 units of the new Nintendo DS
dual-screen handheld game system were sold in Nov., about in line with sales
numbers that Nintendo issued last week (CED Dec 10 p5). Nintendo said the
"initial batch of 500,000 units" that it shipped initially in N. America
were nearly sold out a week after Nintendo DS launched there Nov. 21. It
said about 700,000 hardware units were sold in the market to date.

Sales of DS might have cannibalized at least some sales from Nintendo's Game
Boy Advance (GBA) handheld game system, which saw its sales drop about 6% to
about 1.12 million. The vast majority of sales were for the front- lit
version of the system as GBA's combined installed base increased to about
24.13 million, NPD's data showed.

Nokia's hybrid N-Gage gamedeck/cellphone continued to struggle, with sales
for the new N-Gage QD dropping to about 874 units from 1,081 in Oct., as its
installed base increased to only 6,744. But not all retailers provide NPD
with their sellthrough data. NPD's data showed that only about 39,000 units
of the first N-Gage had been sold to date in the U.S.

NPD's data indicated that videogame software sales increased 11% in Nov. to
$849 million, which was less than analysts had expected. They noted that
without the expected strong sales of the games Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
for PS2 from Take-Two Interactive in its 2nd month available and Halo 2 for
Xbox from Microsoft in its first month, overall videogame software sales
would have tumbled 21% from last year. While Activision, Atari and THQ
exceeded analysts' expectations, Electronic Arts (EA), Midway Games and
Take-Two fell short.

Some of the shortfall in game sales could have been caused by various games
being shifted out of the quarter to avoid facing Halo 2 and San Andreas,
analysts said. At least one of them expected investors to have a negative
reaction to the smaller-than-expected software sales growth. But shares in
most of the major U.S. publishers were about flat or up slightly at our Fri.
deadline.

Combined sales of the standard and limited edition versions of Halo 2 were
about 3.3 million units, while about 1.54 million units of San Andreas were
sold, analysts said NPD's data showed. Other strong performers included EA's
Need for Speed Underground 2, which sold about a combined 716,000 units for
PS2, Xbox and GameCube. The top-selling title for GameCube was Nintendo's
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (about 192,000 units) and the top-selling GBA title
was THQ's The Incredibles (about 236,000).

Halo 2's strong sales propelled Microsoft to #1 in market share for the
month, at 21%, NPD said. EA and Take-Two trailed, at 15.6% and 11.8%,
respectively. Rounding out the top 10 were Nintendo (8.7%), THQ (8.4%),
Activision (7.4%), Sony (4.8%), Konami (4%), Atari (2.9%) and Namco (2.2%).

Activision boasted Fri. that its combined Oct.-Nov. console and handheld
game sales jumped 27% to $114 million from the same period a year ago.
Activision Publishing CEO Ron Doornink said his company was "pleased with
our strong year-over-year sales and are very encouraged by the initial
response to the Nintendo DS."
