Halo 2 cheating on xbconnect =(
|
|
| Dr.z3n 2004-12-02, 6:46 am |
| Welp, it's here. I've seen a glitch in movement from someone the other day
and someone who had super-mega shields tonite + some type of aim bot or
extra damage. Perhaps the first was a bit of lag, but the second was
definately real--when he shot you it felt differently in the controller and
had a 'clicking' sound. I was giving this guy all types of props because I
thought he just had great aim (he always used pistols or sniper) and great
technique--and he did have good tactics and knew what you need to know to
survive Halo2 multiplayer (knowing the maps, knowing how to move, and
knowing what weapon to use for the conditions), but something was wrong with
how 'glitched' things got when you got near him.
I started to smell a rat when after obviously having had his shields
depleated by a now-dead opponent, I rolled in behind him and popped him at
'zero' range w/ the shotgun and did a melee. He was still alive and
proceeded to kill me again =] I didn't say anything, and I really only
thought I was merely too stoned but another player who happens to be pretty
top-tier on xbc blurted it out as soon as we hit the lobby after one game.
He had the same expirence as I did but I don't think he noticed the
weirdness in the vibration in the controller as he would shoot you. XBC is
fun, and I hope it'l still be fun after this, but I would hate to go back to
"Live!" for a while just because halo2... >=7

You know, I'm so naiive, I didn't even really realized he was cheating until
he was gone. =[ Still, you can create a username in XBC in like 15
seconds, with no e-mail verification.
Good thinking though.

Bummer... Maybe the guy works for Bungie, and you guys were spanking him to

Well, it looks as though I may have made a mistake. I tried the exact
methods the guy was using and I've been completely *dominating* ever since.
I still have a problem with the amount of damage he seemed to take, but I'd
be more willing to chalk that up to lag than to cheating.

I did best when I took these steps:
*Learn the proper distances for different weapons such as:
Know what you're going to do when it's "on" (ie: if you're in tight quarters
and have a shotgun, be ready to close quickly and plat it in your opponent's
stomach, if you're in the wide open, better grenade and cover an escape).
Seriously, be thinking "I have the energy sword and I'm in tight
quarters--kill anything that movies" and you'll be ready to act on
impulse--alot of it is about the 'draw'--be a warrior and lean forward.
Still, when you have, say a pistol and an smg and the other guy has a
shotgun, don't let him close on you and (see beginning of paragraph). When
you have same pistol and smg and opponent has a BR, you want to close on him
quickly if possible. Obviously, the plasma pistol works well when
supercharged to bring down shields.
Be aware of the map, spawn-times for powerups, different tactics (don't
hesitate to run away if the alternative is you getting blown away for-sure)
When your shields are down, that horrible beeping will last forever as you
try to cover your escape, when you are pursuing an opponent whose shields
are down, he will power up faster than you think kill him
super-happy-fun-quick.
Needler is good against AI but only in very few situations against
fast-moving humans. Only use if you have cover and outside smg distance and
opponent is in the wide-open.
I'd rather have grenades than duel-wield a bad combination for conditions
(like having smg/grenades in the open field of coagulation)
There are more, but I don't wanna understress the importance of these.
Dr.z3n
PS The guy with the rocket-launcher is beatable, the one with the
energy-sword isn't unless you have the flank.

No cheat protection. 8-) Any modded Xbox with modified stuff can play on
it. I know what we'll do today, let's race with our cars in PGR2 that go
from 0-160 in 0.5 seconds.
No voice.
No unified friends list.
Etc, etc.

Dude, if you talked more out of your XXX, you'd have to cut a hole in your
pants and walk on your hands, seriously. Sit down!
There is voice, there is the same "party host" interface and the only glitch
that's been found *can* be done in "Live!" I was surprised MS let Bungie
get H2 out of the door playing so well on the 'tunnel' progs. H1 was
atrocious. Once you're in a low-ping 'party' you're set all nite. Also,
FWIW, there is a 'friends' list, although even in "XBL" I found it to be
overhyped for the way I (and seemingly most) folks play. H2's 'system link'
requirements can't be much different than XBL's.

How do they modify source code from the games that allow
characters/cars/etc. to have extra abilities?

I spent about 45 minutes with H2 on XBL and I would say they're almost
identical. XBL obviously has better ping detection to not let goobers
serve.
Live! pros: "controlled" environment, more noobs, no question as to
cheating, better quality controls for hosts, and better interface (no PC
needed, etc).
XBC pros: free, more mature gamers, better quality of opponent, very little
voice masking, and I may catch hell for this, but all other things being
equal, I liked XBC.
The quality is a night/day difference between what you could get out of H1
and what you can get from H2.

Anyone who even attempts to put LAN gaming over the internet (the very idea
seems silly) in the same league as Xbox Live is the one talking out of their

Have you played H2 on XBC or any other tunneling prog.? I've played both,

My uneducated (except in the end-result) guess is that the amount of data
for a LAN and a Live! game are nearly identical. In H1, there was lag any
time you got over 2 boxes connected, and when there was lag, your character
pretty much won't move. In H2, I've seen 5-xbox player matches with 12
players and zero noticable lag. Even so, when there is lag, there's the
normal weirdness--but you can at least move.

Twice now I've had 3 Xboxes hooked up via hub/Ethernet cables, 12 players,
no lag whatsoever. Once with Halo and once with H2.
My uneducated guess would be that if there is lag over System Link it is due
to a bad cable, hub, or connector.

I had expected that to be the case, and it is satisfying to hear someone
confirm it. After all, why change game mechanics that much as far the token
information is concerned between system link and online

Yes, it does put to bed some nasty accusations that "M$" would seek to keep
the requirements for syslink high so that 'tunneling' hacks wouldn't work.
Of course, the tin-foil-capped sit silent on things such as this.

Thanks, upon reading that one again, I have a correction to make on the
energy sword:
If you have a shotgun, you can defeat an energy sword as long as conditions
aren't laggy. The look on someone's face after you fill them full of 8Ga.
when they've been running rough-shod picking up points w/ the energy sword?
Priceless.

Yep, gotta love the shotgun, and the rocket launcher does the trick as well.
Although I've taking myself out a couple of times standing too close.

| XBC is definitely worth getting over XBL because you don't pay 40 bucks a year for it, let alone any money at all. |
