Wow.

Dumping the piece of crap x86 Intel chip for the PPC was a good move for
Microsoft but they just got blown out of the game. Cell has turned out
to be everything IBM and Sony planned for it to be.

Wow.

I've never understood this need to evangelize whatever machine they've
either bought, or got their hearts set on. It's not as if they had
anything to do with the design or build of the thing, yet you're bound
to hear something like "I'm the proud owner of XYZ". WTF are they proud
of? They're only the punter who coughed up the cash for the thing,
nothing more. Muppets, the lot of 'em, no matter what machine they
own/want.

Hardware specs are only half of the story. The Saturn was a heck of a system
on paper, but it was notoriously difficult to program for. Factor in that MS
is easier to deal with than Sony(so sayeth Tecmo) and it should be real
interesting.

Quite. The processor in the PS3 might be great but the Sega Saturn was much
more powerful than the PS1 and the rest is history.

Yes some are...generally it's people who had the bar raised
by Halo. It appears you've never played either all the way
through on any level. Halo/2, Silent Service and Diablo2
family are the only games I've played all the way through
that were worth playing again. NFS 2 on the Game cube? It
was okay but fairly easy imo.

Bzzt!

Sorry dimwit, I've been following Cell's development with every IBM and
Sony patent submission for the last couple of years while work at home
on console games. It won't be long until I get my hands on one of the
early Cell workstations.

The nice thing about working at home is there is always time to play
flame the idiot fanboys, fanboys just like you dummy.

Come on dimwit, let's hear your assessment of the Cell family of chips
and their impact on the console market! Or are you just another
forgettable waste of space punk?

That's what I was thinking about you. The article indicates that Sony
unveiled some of the key *concepts* for cell, not that the chip had arrived
or was everything Sony said it was. The thing isn't out yet and you're on
you knees before it.

Do you even understand that the infrastructure to support true cell
computing for the average consumer does not exist in this country and will
not far past the time the PS3 is an outdated toy (as compared to a new toy
it will be in 2006).

Apparently not...

Considering that the best-selling console of each generation has NEVER been
the most powerful one, I'd think you should be bragging that Sony is working
on crappy hardware, not powerful stuff.

zer0

2004-11-29, 5:48 pm

You come onto this newsgroup to brag about sony and ibm.
The purpose of that is to... what?

Is sony lacking the funds for advertisements that they
hire people like you to come here and brag and boast and
try to use intimidating methods? I am no fan of just one
system..I love them all.

It's just pathetic you got that much time on your hands to
hype up a press release. And by the way from my own
personal level IBM is horrible. I am surprised they
haven't bellied up yet or got bought out. They went into
the outsourcing market and then even did call centers for
other companies for a while to get funds back. You're just
pathetic to brag about IBM in general. Their company
always gives disappointments. I got more faith in
HP/Compaq than IBM. Just for this posting everyone on this
newsgroups should ask anyone who has IBM stock to sell low.

:-)

P.S. by the way..get a real job..your way overobsessed
with IBM it's scary.

Seriously, I don't give a crap about what platform has the best graphics,
I'm in it for the quality of gameplay. The minute we place a higher
priority on graphics over gameplay is the minute we condemn ourselves to a
crappy gaming experience.

I am so sick of PS2 and Gamecube fanatics saying 'graphics' aren't important
and Xbox fans that say graphics are the most important. Come on folks -
great graphics neither add to or take away from gameplay but they are part
of the overall gaming experience. Gameplay is most important, followed by
sound (for me at least) and then graphics. Unfortunately, it is rare to have
a game excel in all three areas.

To the PS2 fans : No, it's not about the graphics BUT good graphics do not
make a game bad
To the Xbox fans: Yes, good graphics are a plus but they do NOT make the
game
To the Gamecube fans: Yes, gameplay is the most important part of a game but
it does not mean a game can't have both good gameplay and graphics

I'll never understand it either. What would they get if one of the three
current generation (XBox, PS2, GC) "won" over the other? Perhaps they get
to tell everyone else, "I told you so." Meanwhile, everyone else loses due
to less competition. I'm quite thankful that all three are out on the
market. Competitive pricing has allowed me to own three excellent gaming
machines.

I just purchased a Nintendo DS for $150 as well. Think the Sony PSP would
be released for $180 had it not been for the Nintendo DS? I'll happily be
purchasing a Sony PSP when they are released in the US.

Thats kind of true about graphics. A lot of people like the gta3 series and
the graphics are crap.

You have nfi what you're talking about. Sega Saturn used multiple 16 bit
processors. PS1 used a 32 bit processor and had a more powerful 3d gfx unit.

gta2 was awesome for the computer. I was obsessed with
that and the graphics weren't really good at all.

Atari 2600 I loved that system. I had masters of the
universe, smurfs, and river raid were my favorites ;-)

The tank games got boring for it. they were so overplayed
on atari...

How about just 'plonk'. Yes, this lumps trolls, zealots, flamers,
fanboys, etc. into a single category, but let's face it, who wants to
spend the time catagorizing these folks any further beyond "folks I pay
attention to" and "folks I ignore"?

Yeah, because we all know how important doa TITleS are for Xbox gamers.

Not a slam against DOA, but come on Tecmo, let's see them do something
besides milk that franchise. Either that, or they should just milk it
harder - like DOA:xXx Modeling (otherwise known as the "We all know why
you're *really* buying this" game) Characters participate in various modeling
"games" that use a DDR-esque interface. (Left, A, Right, A, Jump Jump Jump!
*click*) Play as either the model or the cameraman, as you unlock
additional walkways, costumes, accessories, and camera lenses. See if you
can unlock the special hidden Wet T-shirt Modeling mini-game!

Special features would allow you to create and save your favorite photo
sessions - and even upload your favorite photos to Tecmo's website!

It's pretty clear to see who and what he was responding to. You are pretty

Let me get this straight sport...some clown posts a link to some hideous

Cell hasn't turned out to be ANYTHING yet, moron. They don't even have
a working demo of the damn thing yet. For all you know, it could turn
out to be a total turd.

Anyway, it'll still be two years before you can even buy a PS3. But
don't worry, you'll still have your six year old PS2 to keep you warm
at night while the real gamers are all playing their xbox 2's (a game
console a full 2 generations better).

lol, hahaha, I think that is funny.

This has nothing to do with you personally NightSky, cause
I completely agree with you. But it does seem quite
hypocritical that most Xbox users were screaming that Xbox
has the best graphics, and best hardware. But now that
Sony is going to pummel the xbox2 in stats, that the same
people that were screaming xbox was best because of
hardware specs, now are crying out that it is all about
the gameplay.

Jeez - give me a break, the game is fun and all the emphasis on the female
characters is just stupid. It's a decent fighting game with characters that
really control differently. It's easy enough for a newbie to play and enjoy
and if you take the time to learn the 70 or so moves for each character you
can do some really cool combos.

....and if you want to sleeze it up - please equal time for male and female
characters - maybe a wet shorts contest?

DOA is nice as a casual fighter, but no where near as engaging as others
I've tried. Soul Calibur, for instance, has even more moves and more
characters each with a unique weapon and style (or styles)

Not that it's a bad game, but you have to admit it wouldn't be nearly so
popular if it weren't for the "emphasis", as you put it. Not that I
think this is such a *bad* thing per se...but eye candy only gets you so
far and after awhile, just makes the game look rather immature.

> ...and if you want to sleeze it up - please equal time for male and female

Of course! The men should have just as many outfits as the women, and in
fact, I think they should also have secret strip-routines you could use
during their photo shoots. You'd have to collect sets of outfits, as well
as using secret additional moves during their sequences to get them to
strip off one outfit, revealing a new one underneath. As you collect more
clothing, different sequences of outfits would also be revealed. Yes, I
really think there's great untapped potential with the franchise's male
characters (although, who'd want to see Oni in a thong? Ever?)

Railasser, you idiot of the year. Despite what you think of the web page he
linked, the fact still remains that the info on that page was relevant to
the topic and helped prove someone else's point. Had you said, "that web
page makes a good point, but does it ever look home made," I would have

Heh, interestingly enough, I just changed the look and graphics of the
site. If you could put it to words, what would you say is missing/looks
bad and why? I feel the same way, it just doesn't gel the way I'd like
it to somehow....

I'm not really a fan boy, I just enjoy reading Usenet, and you looked
like you needed some advice. Press Release == Media Hype, the
processor doesn't matter, the games do. It's Sony so I'm sure there
will be plenty of great titles. Historically the 3rd console for a
company is a hard sell.
quote:

>Come on dimwit, let's hear your assessment of the Cell family of chips

>forgettable waste of space punk?

As stated above I'm not concerned with the processor. My assessment is
that the Cell family of chips will have 0 impact on the console
market. Yes, I mean none. If it were not IBM it would be some other
chip maker, The people buying the system will not care one iota about
the chip, it's architecture, or processing ability. They will want to
see the end product. Developers will only care about the bottom line,
the cost of developing / porting software to the system. If there are
quality games available for the system it will sell.

I hope that it's worth my hard earned money when I spend it on the new
system. I've owned every NEC, Sega, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft
console so far, and I don't for see any reason to stop buying new
hardware.

Did you try upping the difficulty?

Did you try playing your friends?

Sure, set the game on "easy" and what do you know? The game's like...easy.

Check the msg again you'll see at the beginning of the 4th line of the
larger "paragraph" that I did it on any difficulty setting, and I play too
many games, I don't have any friends anymore... lol that and I got married
this year... to someone most of my old friends don't really like. So I
see/hang out with them... zero. Looking for new, but its hard when you know
almost every person within 30 miles that likes what you like. But halo was
$50 for over 2 years... and it way out sold SC2...

doh sorry for cross posting, I just noticed... I should have kept this msg
line on one newsgroup...
