Author Connecting wireless XBOX Live - bandwidth and router question

My neighbor (I live in an apartment) has DSL and lets me use his wireless
connection as long as I do not download large files or anything that would
significantly slow his connection down.

1. Would going online with XBOX Live eat up alot of his bandwidth to where
it would be noticeable for him?

2. I have a Netgear wireless router model # MR314. Could I connect this to
my xbox to pick up the signal rather than buying the wireless adapter?

3. Is there any reason why I would have any problems using xbox Live with
his connection?

Thanks!

Yeah, it'll probably be noticable assuming he's got the typical 1.5M
down/ 256K up. Obviously, you should not plan to host any games. If
your neighbor's connection is around 3Mbps down and 512Kbps up I'd say
you'd be a bit safer (he'd probably only notice you if he downloads
something large or uses bittorrent).

If the router can be put into "Bridge Mode" than yes.

If he does anything that utlizes a lot of bandwith it can effect your
connection to live. The person is already being generous and I would
think asking to use Live! on his connection would be overstepping
(unless you're chipping in financially).

Is there anyway I can determine his connection speed?

How can I find out if the router can be put in bridge mode?

Thanks!

Asking your neighbor may be the easiest. Give DSL Reports a shot
(dslreports.com), they will report your speed in Kbps, so 1200 Kbps is
about 1.2Mbps -- a speed around there would imply 1.5Mbps down.

Download your router's manual and check for yourself:

The MR314 has issues with Xbox Live as well.
