Can you play Halo2 online without having to have a headset?

Yes.

Why do people think you need a headset to play any game online? It's not
a requirement. I just leave mine unplugged a lot of the time because I
get tired of listening to all the lil bitches on LIVE :P

Do other people know if you have a headset or not? Do other people expect
you to be able to communicate with them?

there's an icon that indicates if your headset is on or off and it
flashes when someone is talking over their headset. i don't find that
people "expect" you to talk to them, especially when playing Halo 2... a
game like Burnout 3, where ppl create their own rooms and u join in is a
lil different tho, sometimes they give u da boot if you're not using a
headset, which i think is lame but there's lots of lame ppl on LIVE.

If your playing a Live game in anything other then a one on one the you
should obviously be taking to your team mates - and if you are not "playing
the game " then go play else where or expect to be "booted". why would
anyone want your to be part of their team if you are not a team player or an
active participant ??

well, reason i ask is a friend's brother is deaf and obviously would not be
able to communicate online, so it in this case it would not be an issue of
not wanting to be a team player

Some of the best games I've had on LIVE did not involve a headset. Sure,
with cooperative games it is SWEET, and adds much to the game that will not
be there otherwise. But for a fragfest (which is great for burning
stress...), the headset is practically superflous.

Exactly. I don't use the headset for Sharpshooter in Rainbow Six 3 series at
all.

Then he shouldn't be playing on TEAM Games. You have to communicate with
each other on your TEAM so you can do what is required to WIN! If you
don't have a headset, you can hear what to do on your team, and the only
thing that will happen is your team looses. On the other hand, games that
aren't a team game, say playing Moto 2, or PGR2, whatever, where your Action
doesn't affect the TEAM, then you don't need a headset. If it's a game of
everyone against everyone, then a headset is not important. Of course
what's the point of LIVE then? Then it's kind of like playing against the
computer, instead of playing against real people!
