i paid full whack (229 pounds sterling) for my xbox when it was released and
i switched it on 2 days ago and got ERROR 7 please contact customer support.
After looking around a bit i find that my hard drive has failed and of
course i got it 2 christmases ago therefore its not under warranty.

Has anyone else had this experience and if so what happened.
I have talked to MS already and they have advised it will be 78 pounds (UK)
to get it "repaired" - a brand new xbox currently costs 99 pounds.

This totally sucks. I expected it to last a bit longer than 2 years.

DOH!!!

sorry no such probs here pally... but I have been worried about that, and
trying to find a (non-modifying my Xbox) way to back up all my stuff on the
Xbox HD (since I got mine the day of the US launch, its getting some gray
hairs too).

Please do not tell me to use a memory card. There is no way a 32 meg or 64
meg mem-card will back up a 2997 block save-game (DOA) or even the 3167
block Save (Tao-fang) when a 32 meg is only 502 blocks.

32 megs = 32768 kb
502 blocks = 32768 kb
1 block = 65.275 kb
3167 blocks = 206725.925 kb
206725.925 kb = 201.881 megs

all numbers are approximations based off 1024kb in 1 meg and are rounded on
each step to the nearest thousandth.
any ideas? keep in mind I do not intend on opening up my Xbox when
responding.
