My Router on my PC has no trouble seeing the XBox...

my linksys router has a cable/dsl input connector, but I only have a
dialup connection.

Im not planning on online gaming (Xbox Live), but just curious, is it
possible for a router to use a dialup connection?

Afraid your out of luck -- I don't recall any routers currently on the
market that would support dialup -- except things like WinGate or WIndows XP
ICS sharing.

Unless of course you use one of these things:

http://www.actiontec.com/products/t...m_overview.html

The Actiontec Dual-PC modem has an embedded Linux core with a flash ROM
that lets you write dial-up settings to memory. It retains standard
SLIP/PPP dial-up information and dials independently of two 10/100 NIC
connections, which then share the connection. You can also attach an
additional router or hub to further share out the connection.

Best Data also makes a less expensive version that's available in Circuit
City and CompUSA. The Actiontec product was the first of its kind and was
available at higher-end computing retail stores, like Frye's. Neither
product supports proprietary dial-up protocols, like those used for
low-end mass market services such as America Online. There are independent
organizations that have created hardware and software modifications for
these devices, usually with the blessing of the manufacturer.

Note my personal opinions as appropriate, and make sure you do your own
research before purchasing and using one of these things. And just to be
kind to those of us on text newreaders, please don't top-post. Hope this
is helpful.

If your DSL is using PPPoE and it probably is, then your router simply has
to support that option. My linksys wirelessG/router combo supports that on
the WAN interface as a connection choice and allows me to enter my username
and password. The router then "dials" automatically for me. My Cisco 831
also has a PPPoE client. Most routers these days do.

you can get some serious speed happening (compared to normal dialup) through
dialup if he is dialing up to a local server connected to broadband, ie. his
work's server.
perhaps this is his thought

That is the quote, but some dual channel isdn setups (possible with routers
such as the 3com units) have a sustained 128k up and down throughput,
rivaling the upload speeds of several broadband providers. Not to mention
this is available in parts of the country that broadband still is not.

Beta testing of Live actually had some of these folks running fine. I don't
think it was publicized much, though.

Not to quibble, but the Xbox Live! test sites were limited to Broadband
only. There is too much lag on dial-up.

You do understand the difference between isdn and standard dialup, right?
It sounds like you are answering this post by rote, not by comprehension.

Besides, I happen to know this one for a fact, regardless of what
documentation you can find on the sites. Being an original XBox MVP I got
to talk to some interesting folks...
