Author To mod or not to mod....

I just bought my first Xbox and am thinking of "moding" it.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of adding a mod chip?
I was thinking of the Xemium Ice Solderless chip, mainly just so I don't
have to solder anything. If anyone have any other suggestions I would
be gratefull. I do know how to solder, just don't want to if I don't
have to.
Thanks,
Mike

I would suggest going to Google or some other search engine to find your
answer. The Microsoft answer would be that it is illegal to modify an Xbox.
You would be changing patented and/or copyrighted hardware (not just
Microsoft's) when you open up the case. Besides that, you may invalidate an
Xbox Live! account if you have one, and have the machine banned from Live!
usage.

be able to get xbox live again.

Just switch the mod chip off when using Live. All modern mod chips can
be switched off with a flick of a switch, and homebrew software can be
installed in stealth mode so that Xbox Live cannot see the modifications.

And even if your box would be banned from Live, it's easy to change your
Xbox serial number and be able to connect Live again. There are
ready-made, easy to use programs for that.
