B.C. Canned

October 22, 2004 - The Intrepid and Lionhead caveman game, B.C., has today
been canned after many years of work. Here's the word from Lionhead:

In announcing the decision to suspend work on BC, Peter Molyneux Managing
Director of Lionhead Studios said "The decision to suspend work on any games
project is always a very difficult one, particularly when it is a title with
the potential of BC. We hope to revive the project at a later date and will
endeavour to assign as many of the team as possible to other Lionhead
projects."
Here's hoping that this sees the light of day at some point.

being upgraded for Xenon Xbox2 ?

I can't be very disappointed about any Molyneux game being canned.
They are almost always subpar.

Fable wasnt a bad game, it was pretty good, granted it never met the
original vision of Molyneux and many of its expected features were cut, the
likes of black & white were not perfect yet it was still an above average
game. Fact is, the games industry needs people like Molyneux, they have the
drive to get things done and be creative. Whats the alternative? A continuos
spew of tomb raider, fifa etc etc clones. Oh wait, we already have those, we
need creativity, not clonability. BC is a big loss, it was something new,
early indications show it to be pushing the boundaries of its genre, which
is what we need.

actually looking forward to.

I'm disappointed. I was looking forward to that one.

In other words, "Microsoft gave us a bit of a kickback to improve the
graphics in the game, and release it for the Xbox2 at launch."

That's my prediction, anyone else think this theory may hold true?

Cheers!

If Fable was anything to go by, I predict Xbox 3.

I can't say I'm disappointed. Even after many articles on the game in OXM,
I never grasped the concept so it was never on my radar. Maybe they ran
into some stumbling blocks, like money. Lionhead just borrowed more money
so maybe they should start thinking a little about the bottom line if they
want to survive. You can't spend 2-3 years making a couple games, with no
income. Maybe you guys know but what else have they been doing besides BC
and Fable?

Probably true, and if so; is there something wrong with that? I don't see
anything wrong with that.

Besides, given the choice, if YOU were the developer, wouldn't you rather
develop for a more powerful box; and even maybe have a chance at a launch
title? I know I would.

H.

Nope, never said there was anything wrong about that, aside from LionHead
giving the public the wrong reason for the decision, instead of the truth.

That is ofcourse If I'm right, which I may not be.

I was interviewed for a position on the BC team back in February of 2000 and
they have been working on it for a while back then. So my guess would be
they've been working on it for a good 5 years by now.

That's even worse. Thanks for illustrating my point. Sometimes you gotta
do a game for the money and then a game for the art. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
