I have had some problems connecting with one of my friends on Xbox
Live.
I only seem to have this problem with one person on my friends list.
If
I host a game he cannot join. If I send him a chat invite he cannot
accept and if he sends me a chat invite I cannot accept.

A little research indicates that it may be due to my NAT settings. A
connection test from my 360 shows that my NAT is moderate.

I use a Linksys WRT54G v2 firmware version v2.02.7 for my router and it

connects to my Xbox using a Linksys WET54GS bridge. I have tried the
following:

1. Do port forwarding on UDP port 88 and UDP/TCP port 3074 for both the

xbox and the bridge. The result is still moderate NAT.
2. turn off PNP on the router. The result is strict NAT
3. put the bridge in the DMZ. The result is moderate NAT.
4. put the xbox in the DMZ. The result is moderate NAT.

I replaced the bridge with one of the old microsoft game adaptors (not
the 360 one but the one that they sold for the original xbox) because I

thought the bridge might be doing something with the port numbers. I
tried the following:
5. put the game adaptor in the DMZ. The result is moderate NAT.
6. put the xbox in the DMZ. The result is moderate NAT.

7. I even tried turning firewall protection on the router off but the
result was still moderate NAT.

I have a friend one street over with the same cable provider and he is
able to get his NAT to be open so I don't think it has to do with my
provider.

I'm not really sure what I should try next so I would appreciate any
ideas any of you might have.

Regards,
Donald

You NEED to forward ports TCP 3074 and UDP 88,3074!!!
Also you need to make sure the forward ports are acually going to the
correct IP address. If you DON'T make your 360 use the SAME IP address
every single time, it can change, and then those forawrding ports are not
doing anything. Say you turned on your PC and then your 360, so your PC is
192.168.0.2 and your 360 is 192.168.0.3, but then the next time your 360 was
turned on first, so now it's 168.192.0.2 and now it's no longer working.

What I see YOUR problem is, it's the Router according to what you have
listed. On MS Page of supported Routers, though it's not complete, your's
is listed.
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/c...ent.htm#Routers
and for yours it says WRT54G (V1, V2, V3) 3.01.3, 3.06.6 are supported. You
show as using verson 2.02.7 which is older! That must be your problem.
Your going to have to update the flash of your Router!!! Not a big deal. I
did it lots of times when I had my linksys. I have since owned a Netgear
and now curently a D-Link.

ive got a very similar router to yours, WRT54GS hardware version 5.1

i had the same problem, tried everything youve tried, and a pile of other
ports and settings, nothing worked, turns out the only way i could get NAT
to open was to use DHCP IP addressing for the xbox rather than static IP
address and to enable uPNP, done that and everything worked great on mine

i notice you have an early version of this router, might be worth looking
into 3rd party firmwares for that device as (ive heard) they work better try
googleing dd-wrt and see what you can find ... make sure you get the corect
firmware for your router ... also note there is always a chance this could
brick your router (as with any firmware upgrade, even linksys ones) so just
be warned and be carefull ;)

ohh main reason why DD-WRT is better is it allows static DHCP addressing
..... weird but it seems to work
