| i usually have a 512k to 1MB DSL connection
my "Next Level Communications" box has 1 cable
going in and an output for DSL and for my digital cable
my ISP says it is not a router but its some kind of DHCP
box.. when i hit the menu button while viewing tv.. it says
"Gateway Menu" at the top but only lets me change tv
settings.. when i unhook the dsl from my computer and into
my Xbox i keep getting "MTU failed" messages.. i told my
ISP about it, but they dont seem to know what i'm talking about.
Will a router help fix all my problems?? or am i having communication
problems with my ISP?? If router is solution.. what router should i get?
i guess i'll need a router eventually to hookup my computer and xbox
to internet at same time anyways?? after my contract is up with DSL
company i plan on getting cable internet access which promise much
higher internet speeds of 6 MB or more.. will my DSL router work with
a cable router in the future???

I love my wireless router. It's a Belkin and it's been working nearly
non-stop for years now.
I have no clue if you're having connection issues, but if the main device
connected to your ISP is working than I'd guess that part is fine.

A router is a router is a router. The only concerns would be if some funky
DSL router doesn't have an ethernet cable connection for the "wan" or
"uplink" port, which is the port that connects to your ISP. All the other
ports (including wireless if you have it) connect to the devices on your
network; i.e. xbox, pc, etc.

| Adding in a router is not going to help with an "MTU Failed" message.
