Hi,

Just a dumb question, as I am not sure. I saw some clearance in some stores
for a 12 month sub to live for the older xbox. It's about $10-15 cheaper
than the 1 year sub though the 360. I have an original xbox but, never
signed up for live on it. So I am new with live on my 360.

Will the older subs work on the 360, and is there any downfall for using
them ?

Thanks !

no this will not work. Unless you setup a new account on your original
and then migrate the account over to the 360.

interesting.... After I posted, I looked though the live site and after
about 25 min of browsing, I came up with the same question. a MVP said that
the older subs will work with the 360 but, the 360 will not with with an
older xbox...

SO, what is right ? I don't want to buy one and find it does not work and
the store wont take it back because it's been opened....

That would be me. I personally used an original unused xbox live 12 month boxed
subscription to register 12 months of a gold membership for my wife at the
beginning of this year on our xbox 360. The card was in an unopened box that was
given to a friend of ours over a year ago who did not have an xbox. We were the
lucky recipients of his generosity.
Unless something has changed, and I have no reason to believe that it has, the
12 month xbox live card from the original box will indeed be successful in
activating a 12 month Gold membership on the xbox 360.

Ok, thanks, so it will work with a 360. That clears that up. Even though I
picked up a 360 12 month sub on ebay for $26 (confirmed, unused), I'll keep
my eyes open. If I see them for under $25, I'll stock up on them (as some
places have them on clearance, as they are listed for the old xbox). I also
did see on the live site that you could bank up to 3 years on the 360/live.

Thanks for clearing that up !

Thank you Steve....

If you buy a sub from someone at eBay, does it matter for which region the
subscription box was made? In other words, if I buy one from an American
seller, will I be able to activate the subscription for my German Live
account?

yes ,
usa cards for usa accounts only
Canadian card good for Canadian accounts only.

and you cant change your account region only console region.
so if you move from usa to canada you can only use usa credit cards or
prepaid cards.

this however does not mean if you live in Canada you cant take advantage
of free week/ just mean you have to change your region and setup a
silver account on the console. then you have 2 accounts. one canadian
and one US. Be nice once we get some free weekends up here

An ad on Xbox.com has revealed a second Verizon-sponsored Free Xbox Live
Gold event, this time running for more than a weekend. Here is the
official word:
In honor of E3 2006 and since the first free weekend was so huge, we
decided to do it again. And this time for a whole week - a full-on 7-day
party. You wanted more. You're getting A LOT more. More time. More free
Points. More stuff. So start inviting your friends. You might wanna quit
your job, give away your pets, fire the girlfriend. This is the week
you've been waiting for and it's all brought to you by Verizon.

May 8th-14th? ... I'm not sure what that Adidas Xbox Live Football
Free-For-All week (may 8th-15th) announced some weeks ago still means
then. It also offered a week of free Xbox Live Gold. Maybe that the
Adidas week is worldwide while the Verizon promotion is US-only?
