| I wouldn't even try it. First, you would want to use Internet Connection
Sharing and a regular Ethernet cable, but I wouldn't waste the time on it
because the connection is likely to be very "iffy" at best. Just get
yourself either a wireless adapter for the Xbox or a long Ethernet cable to
reach your base station (router).

| can't bridge to an ICS LAN, and can't connect two "b" ports without
using a crossover cable
should be able to do this since the bridge runs in promiscuous
mode....thanks anyway

I'm assuming you've managed to bridge the connections successfully
(select both, right click, select Bridge Connections). If you're using a
router, and it has DHCP enabled, your xbox should be assigned an IP; if
not, find out what subnet your laptop's IP is on (right click on the
wireless connection, click status and select the support tab) and then
set your xbox to use a similar--unused--IP in the same subnet. If you're
setting things up manually, you'll also need to set the same Default
Gateway that your laptop uses.
I don't know if you're using an xbox or an xbox 360 so I can't say
exactly how you'd go about doing that.

| I didn't say to bridge the connections. I said to use Internet Connection
Sharing, which would mean the laptop would share the Internet connection
through the Ethernet port.

setup static ip on laptop and static on xbox. make sure that they are on
a different subnet than the wireless. Then use the wireless ip as the
gateway. Make sure that you have ics enabled on the wireless adapter.
(that should work)

with the 360 you dont need a cross over cable. It will auto detect what
it needs. kinda cool to be honest.
