Questions from a Live newbie

| OK, I've decided to purchase XBox Live Gold accounts for my boys to use on
their 360 for Christmas and just had a few questions about XBox Live and how
it works.
OK, first of all, Live Points and purchasing games like Uno or Bejeweled 2
or what have you. Do you have to have a Gold account to buy these or can
someone with a Silver account purchase a points card and buy these games too.
Also, once we've purchased Uno or Galaga or some other game, can anyone using
the system play these games, regardless of who is logged onto the 360?
Also, are the original XBox Live and XBox Live Gold for the 360 different?
For example, if my kids have a Live Gold account on the 360, can they use
this same account to play Crimson Skies or some other non-360 compatible game
online with our original XBox?
Finally, I don't know if it makes sense to purchase each child an account.
They aren't worried about online ranking or any of that. All they want to do
is to be able to play online, period. Since they can't all use the system to
play online at once anyway, and they don't care about ranking or any of that
stuff, I'd rather buy one Gold account and spend the other money to pick them
up a new game or two rather than purchase three or four Live Gold accounts.
Does that make sense? Am I missing something?
Thanks for any information anyone might be able to provide.
Sincerely,
- Byron Followell

A few games on the original Xbox allow you to bring a "guest" online with
you. So you sign into the game and bring a guest along for the on-line fun.
Halo2 allows up to 3 guests. I think Star Wars BattlefrontII allows 1
guest, Crimson Skies does too, I think.
Games that allow guests are rare, but they do exist.
