Are there any routers where you can just plug in and no set up or do they
all need setting up? I tried using Network Everywhere brand router which
Linksys makes but it it kept saying could not connect to router. Should I
use the regular Brand Linksys router? I have been looking at the Linksys
router that is for wireless, but you could also have it wired if you
desired. Its about $60. Does anyone know if there are any routers that are
easy set up? If so, please do say.

The standard Linksys routers work the best (wireless or not). Mine
were really easy to setup and use. Depending on your type of internet
connection you might need to set up a few things (user name and
password if needed) but other than that you should be good to go. I
have a cable modem and also a DSL with static IP. I didn't need to set
anything up on the router. If you have something like a PPPoe DSL
connection you might need to do a little more.

Well I have Broadband so you say it is easy? What is that DSL with Static
IP thing? But, thanks for the help. Have a great day

This is a good start. As far as setup goes, you should be able to plug
it in and away you go.

You'd know if you had PPPoe (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet)
running. It's a pain in the XXX. You most likely just plug your
Boradband in and away you go right? If this is the case a Linksys
router should be easy. Mine just plugged in and away I went. Simple
as that.

A static IP address is fixed, much like a telephone number. If your ISP
gives you a static address, you will always use the same address.
Usually with PPPoe the address changes. I'm not tech so I can't get
into the details too much before I'm over my head ;o)

I have a side business where I do computer networking and repair on a
regular basis. For residential use, I always use Linksys. They have
excellent products and customer support. It depends on your ISP as to
whether it will just work out of the box. If you have cable, typically it
will. DSL is a bit more sophisticated and much faster, (no shared
connection with everyone on your street as with cable). The flipside is
that there is a little more configuration you will have to do with DSL which
is worth it in my opinion.
