a direct connection. the problem is when i try and access xbox live it cant
find the dns server. i contacted my isp who gave me the address of the server
but still nothing. do i need to configure my router even though i am using it
as a modem and soley for my xbox and not for my p.c. if not does anyone have

| If your PC is Windows XP, simply use Internet Connection Sharing
(information is in your Help and Support, off the Start menu). You would
need a Network Interface Card in the computer, out to your router set in
access mode. Your computer needs to be on at all times you wish to use the
Xbox, since it does the sharing, not the router.
There's a similar setup in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article
(http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;817461), but
references a satellite USB modem. Just ignore the "satellite" references.
The rest of the hardware setup is the same. There is also information on
the Xbox connections page:

Contact your ISP and tell them that you need an Ethernet connection and not
a USB connection.
That should solve your problem.
