Probs with Wireless Belken and Xbox

| I have a friend who is using a wireless belken router with
xbox. For several months everything worked fine. Suddenly
conections to xbox live would only last several seconds,
minutes and then drop and disconnect. He had called
Microsoft and they walked him through several options,
they couldn't solve it and suggested it is probably just a
compatibility issue. My friend then called Belken and
Belken was polite and tried to assist and sent him a new
router thinking possibly something was wrong with their
router. The new router doesn't work. Nothing has changed
on his PC at all and nothing has changed where the Xbox
was sitting.
Any ideas, suggestions? Anyone else have problems with a
wireless Belken and got it to work? All help is
appreciated. Thanks.

| Perhaps it is the actual NIC in the XBox going haywire?

I would check the wireless router setup carefully. First verify that
the router records the wireless game adapter MAC address correctly and
that it does not have a static IP address that is conflicting with any
other static IP address on the network. The router might also see the
Xbox MAC address. Both addresses, if seen by the router should be in
the wireless MAC address filter setup if that is used. Use the setup
program for the adapter to check that WEP security is proper according
to the settings on the router. If perhaps SSID broadcasting was turned
off on the router, turn it back on and see if that solves the problem. I
have a wireless game adapter that must be powered off and then on, while
connected to the powered Xbox, in order to force a connection renewal to
the router from time to time.
To verify that the Xbox ethenet works, connect it to a wired router port
and see if a stable Live connection is possible.
